cool... I am sending mine off to NJ today then.... 4 weeks doesn't sound all that bad, but I can see how much I'll miss it... took some great shots while on Greece this year... these are some of the last ones to come off before the sensor went...

Yeah, I guess.... there is another really cool shot that I took of my cousin that looked great.... I'll see if I can dig it up.....
There it is..... still though, I would rather prefer to use the lens the way it was meant to be used.... maybe I could fry my powershot a80 and see if I get anything similar.... ;-} Anyway, I sent it to NJ yesterday via Canada post and I can't wait to get it back... a real gem it is.... still, I will ask them for an offer to upgrade. I know that there is dissent amongst the forum members about the whole upgrade issue, but I do have some lenses from the film world that I would like to use again, and my wife is a zoom freak and keeps complaining about it when using my D2.... we'll see.... I kinda don't want to risk it though.... it IS a fantastic camera. |

Just wanted to let you know that my D2 came home today. Four months to the day since I sent it to Leica in New Jersey. Can't wait to try it out. Just too busy finishing having a house built in North Carolina and get this one ready to sell. (Great time to be selling a house especially in New Jersey) I missed some opportunities to shot some pictures while it was away. Now I'm too busy, but that will end soon. John

Compared to some examples of failure, mine just suddenly went giving mostly a black screen with a hint of dark purple at the top. There was no gently degradation described by some members. Ah well, life can begin again! David |

My D2’s sensor died during our visit to Chichén Itzá, Mexico back in April 2007 (wished I had a backup film camera with me at the time). Upon my return I sent it to Allendale, NJ and was without a decent camera. I purchased my very first rangefinder; an M6 TTL with 35MM Cron and have enjoyed the renewed experience, not having shot any film since 2001. If it hadn’t been for the D2’s censor failure, I would never have purchased the M6! The D2 just returned from NJ two days ago after a six month separation period. In my hands it feels like a toy compared the solid brass feel of the M6.

Finally I got it replaced by a Digilux 3 (but I cannot assure they will do it for everyone) for 900 € extra. I have offered the Digilux 3 to a friend as a present. I don't like the Digilux 3. If Leica can repair your Digilux 2, IMHO, you should keep it. It's a great camera. I prefer the lens on the Digilux 2 than the Vario Elmarit 2.8/3.5 and the camera/lens is smaller. On the other hand, with the Digilux 3 you gain 2.5M pixels and noise reduction. Well, these are just personal considerations. Cheers. . |

Thanks. Just based on price I could do a lot better trading up via EBay. I hoped buying a Leica meant getting something that was long-lived and had a high used market value. I bought their very nice leather case for it as well as several other accessories because I thought I'd have this around for a long time. Looks like the digital versions aren't doing well though.
I think I'll just have the Digilux-2 repaired. |

I agree with David, I was glad to get mine back and I didn't take Leica up on their D3 offer. I still prefer using the D2 over and above my 10Mpix SLR replacement.

Sent my D2 out in the middle of June to the NJ Leica. I just got it back today....but with some dust on the front element. I have emailed Leica to see if they can or will do anything about it. I know they did the sensor for free but the dust is kinda irritating. I will let you know what they say.

I sent my D2 to NJ two months ago. As of yesterday they are still waiting for parts (the sensor). Their estimate of 4 to 5 weeks wait is blown out of the water. Their credibility is too.

[/quote] ?????????? Let me understand this - Leica is fixing a camera that is long time out of warranty, was not made by them and replacing a part that was made by a third party. At the same time they are fixing other items that were subject to wear and tear (covering, lettering etc.), also N/C. And their credibility is blown out of the water? Give your head a shake. My Digilux 2 has been to New Jersy since June and hopefully Sony will supply replacement sensors soon enough so that we can all start using our cameras again. Best, Jan |
