Paolo.Battista Posted April 10, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 10, 2014 From what I see from these early images, the lens is a no brainer in the m4/3 lineup. Even the price is not far from the Oly 17 f:1,8, which I own and it's a surely a very good but not outstanding lens.

I have the 25mm Summilux and it renders pretty well the same as the full frame 50mm Asph. Very good to know. Thanks. FWIW, I've been using the Voigtlander 25mm F/0.95 for a couple years. It is remarkably crisp and well corrected.
colmac Posted November 8, 2017 Share #9 Posted November 8, 2017 (edited) Recently acquired a Pana GX7 for lightweight (birding) photography. While waiting for the upcoming Pana Leica DG 50-200mm lens I bought the Leica DG Summilux 15mm which is a neat little lens indeed. See attached. Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted November 8, 2017 Share #10 Posted November 8, 2017 Yes, I have put quite a few shots on the forum. The GX-8 or GX9 would have been a better choice for the Vario-Elmar, as the image stabilisation is a magnitude better than the GX7, because those will have dual IS. Samples in this thread: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/269711-discussing-leica-lenses-on-micro-43rds/ The lens is on the market since 2014, BTW
colmac Posted November 9, 2017 Share #11 Posted November 9, 2017 Jaap, After half a century with an M2 and M4P I toyed with the digital M but chose a rangefinder styled Pana M4/3 for the weight/reach ratio. I compromised on the GX7 because of its looks & feel. Neither the GH5 nor the G81 appealed to me. For my purposes – documenting bird species at an amateur level – I believe the GX7’s IQ will suffice. Of course I may upgrade at some point if I need weather protection and improved OIS. Slàinte
jaapv Posted November 9, 2017 Share #12 Posted November 9, 2017 The difference is not so much the IQ, which is indeed not very much less on the GX7, but the superior image stabilsation with the GX8, which is very significant for bird photography. colmac Posted November 9, 2017 Share #13 Posted November 9, 2017 Ok Jaap, but is OIS that important when shooting with 1/500 shutter speeds or faster? I always considered auto focus speed and accuracy as the game breakers with moving subjects – btw not BIF.
jaapv Posted November 9, 2017 Share #14 Posted November 9, 2017 At 800 mm equivalent? Yes, it is important.
pico Posted November 9, 2017 Share #15 Posted November 9, 2017 At last! A precognition mode for decisive moment photography! 4K Pre-Burst: This mode is ideal for times when you're unsure of the critical moment to press the shutter button and will record 8 MP images at 30 fps one second prior to and one second after pressing the shutter button in order to give you 60 frames to choose from. colmac Posted November 9, 2017 Share #16 Posted November 9, 2017 @Pico, An intuitive mode if I'm not mistaken, too challenging for an old git like me @Jaap, I watch guys hump lenses around that I swear would please my chiropractic no end, but not me. Just announced PL Elmarit 200mm f2.8 fits my reach requirements but hardly my wallet or weight constraints. Wonder what happened to the rumoured PL Vario-Elmarit 50-200mm for €1500? pico Posted November 9, 2017 Share #18 Posted November 9, 2017 (edited) @Pico, An intuitive mode if I'm not mistaken, too challenging for an old git like me Probably not older than I. The only way I can imagine such an option is that the camera starts recording to the buffer at a half-press of the shutter release, and if a complete press is not made it erases the recording. If the shutter is completed it stores all the images - probably including the feet of the photographer as he lowers the camera. To Jaap - you aren't complaining. Yer bragging. Still love ya, man. Aside: I saw the doctor yesterday and he measured my blood pressure. He said, "Your heartbeat is slow and your pressure is so low that disregarding other things you could live to 100, but on a daily basis you might think you are dead." So true. jaapv Posted November 10, 2017 Share #19 Posted November 10, 2017 The system works by having a permanent buffered 4K feed. The camera chooses a starting point a second before the shutter is pressed and creates a 30 fps burst. for a couple of seconds. The limitation is that you get 8 MB JPGs. The other option they are using is post focus. During a 4K burst the AF shifts, making it possible to choose the focus point in the computer. So, the camera is constantly recording regardless of the intention of the photographer and when he touches the shutter release, it saves the previous second, the moment and the following second right? Okay. Stop the world. I want to get off. Edited November 10, 2017 by pico
