Default digilux 2 flash exposure

Could someone explain what effect the flash exposure settings has on digilux2. Is it simple a control of the flash level??? + means stronger flash or what?

Nikolaj,

If you choose from the + or - settings for flash setting, you get more or less flash influence in your pix.

Try playing with it. The pix are free and you can delete them.

I find that the flash gets it right most of the time. The nice thing about digital is you can try again if the magical moment hasn't passed.

If I'm not mistaken, D2 flash has a guide number of 10, meaning 10 meters or 33 feet. If you shoot at f/2 the effective distance of the flash is 33 divided by 2 or 16.5 feet. Likewise, if you set your aperture at f/4 your effective distance is only 33 divided by 4 or 8.25 feet. You have to compute the numbers to get your correct range. Since you know the guide number, then it should'nt be too difficult.

If you get an external flash, then you start to work with higher guide numbers. Generally the principle stays the same, except that Metz (if you plan to get a Metz) recommends you shoot within 40% to 70% of the computed maximum distance for best results.

See what works best for you.
