Yes, it will be interesting to see what appears from the marketing hype. On the face of it though a smaller, lighter Nikon dslr with more traditional controls could prove interesting for R lens users as well as Nikon people.

This has probably been posted elsewhere but is buried in the Sony excitment.

I still enjoy using my Nikon FM3As.

Nikon Df Pure Photography video teaser #5 | Nikon Rumors

to me it look a heavy , big and traditional DSRL, just some marketing a a little bit of design to appeal more "retro"

A few years ago many of us expected that Leica would build a digital R 10 model similar to that announced new retro Nikon DF.

The new retro Nikon camera seems to be very compact and sturdy built. The weight is perfect.

Since the viewfinder has traditionally prism and mirror, I assume that the camera also has low power consumption.

This could be the ideal digital FF "wilderness camera" I've missed.

I assume that a FF sensor with only 16 mega pixels also will provide images with very little color noise in e.g. nature images with a lot of green.

I am an amateur and do not print images larger than A3 +.

The question is whether 16 mega pixels are enough to provide sharp images in this format?

If this truly does have the same sensor as the D4 then it will be exciting indeed. 16mp is plenty - or at least the 18 on my M9 has been. Why everybody wants their cameras to be medium format quality (yet with none of the other qualities of MF) I don't quite understand.....

That said my Monochrom comes pretty close to my Mamiyas.....

And I'll gladly pay a premium for a real shutter speed and iso dial, as petty as that may seem. Just never got on with the Nikon command dials (and I've had D200, D3, and now D600).

if you check some reviews (and printing tests like imaging resource) you will see that D800 is the only camera who can still print a 70x100cm at high iso

why?simple, few noise and many MP mean that in big printing you will see less noise then a D4 also if in theory must have less noise..

for me its great this !

Still have to change the mount of the R lenses via Leitax or equivalent right? Sony A7r for me.

Rich

Yes, certainly, - Sony A7r for R lenses, - no doubt about that.

But maybe Nikon dF for use where the wind is blowing in the trees, the waterfalls roar, and the wolves howl at the moon.

And I've had my Tri-X images that I souped in my bathroom blown up to billboard size with grain the size of softballs. Who cares? It's always been and always will be about the photograph, not the 'thread count.'
