James sure it is a very good camera as Panasonic Fz150 owners have experienced. It is more about the way Leica goes about things, one one side they state how unique and different their cameras are but then go and do the same as the rest. It is a Panasonic the m's are Leica.

Last Christmas, I gave my now 15 year old son a V-Lux 2. He loves it and he took wonderful photos in Paris last Christmas and in London in the Spring. My wife uses a C-Lux 3. She wants something that fits in her purse and is easy to carry. She takes photos for memories and views them constantly on her iPad. My daughter's first camera was the original V-Lux and she loved it.

Yes, all are made by Panasonic. Yes, I could have purchased the less expensive Panasonic versions, but I like getting the longer warranty with the Leica version and I like supporting Leica.

If these cameras were made in Germany, they would cost three times as much. Disparaging these cameras because they are not made by Leica misses the point that maybe that most people that buy them and use them, enjoy them.

But lets rejoice in paying real leica prices!

The Leica flavour PanaLeica's are more expensive for a number of reasons, including the companies cost base, but also remember that the Leica versions come with more expensive software (OK not a requirement for many) and usually a longer warranty. It's up to the purchaser to decide if the extra money is worth it for those benefits.

We shouldn't forget that not so long ago, before the M8 or Dr Kauffman came along, Leica camera were teetering on the brink of who knows what, and it was the income from Panaleicas that basically kept them going.

You should all look upon this camera - and the others - with affection and respect as if it were a generous sponsor!

Are their any speculations about actual differences between the V-Lux 3 and its panny relative the fz-150.

Perhaps in the firmware or the way jpgs are rendered.

I am sure that some people will see a difference; it doesn’t imply it’s real though.

What's difference between V-Lux 3 and V-Lux 2? I haven't been able to figure it out yet.

From what I have read the V-lux3 overcomes the image quality issues reported on the V-lux2.

I am still using a V-lux 1 and did not consider upgrading to a V-lux 2 after I read the reviews - decided to keep the V-lux 1 and buy an X1 instead.

However, from what I read the V-lux 3 is 12 as opposed to 14 megapixels and should have better reproduction at low light settings. I might be tempted if the reviews are good.

See the comprehensive report in LFI 1/2012. The improved sensor clearly gives less noisy images, the scourge of many compact cameras at higher ISO settings. The few pictures shown show impressive clarity.
