I bought a Kingston 4 gig SDHC card and used it in my M8 for a while without any problems. Then yesterday when I turned the camera on I got a message that the storsge card was full. I attempted to re-format the card in the camera and it would not re-format. The light stayed on even after I turned the camera off and the only way I could terminate the process was by taking the battery out. The camera works fine with other cards. Is there a problem with the camera or the card?

The card is not supported yet, although Leica in their FAQ says they are working on SDHC support. It is quite different from a standard SD card.
