I started to use Lightroom now as the main application for my M8-library (as I am still waiting for Aperture support for the M8). When comparing the raw conversion of Lightroom (beta 4.1) with the public beta of Photoshop CS3 I noticed that there is only one selection possible under "Camera Calibration" within Lightroom (= "Embedded") vs. under Photoshop there is a second option called "ACR 3.6" usually giving me a far superior colour rendition than the "Embedded" option.
Does anyone know the difference here and whether it might be possible to have the same options available under Lightroom? Might that become available with the final Lightroom 1.0 ? Under the current conditions I still have to switch back to CaptureOne too often which would not be the case if Lightroom could provide me the same profile like Photoshop CS3 is giving me. Thanks Tobias To illustrate the issue I added three conversion each converted with the same WB (3550; -27) and everything else at "auto" (using the chrome profile for CS1 and no IR-cut filter used for the original DNG). Supposedly, by the middle of the month with the official boxed release of LR 1, everything that uses ACR--LR, Bridge, Photoshop--will all be using the same ACR 4. Since CS3 beta was issued after LR beta4, it may be using yet another version of ACR. Can't complain about inconsistencies among beta products; afterall, they are beta and not products. With the products themselves, Adobe has promised complete compatibility and interoperability which is a huge and wonderful accomplishment.
For right now, all you can do is use the one that works. You might consider downloading LR1; it seems to have a lot of improvements over LR beta4. Joe |
