I just spoke to the people at Leica NJ. They confirmed that the DMR production line is finished and that No more will be made. They also confirmed that they are working on the update and that it should be available "soon". HOWEVER,WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE R10, they stated that they have no knowledge of one........... Draw your own CONCLUSIONS, friends.

Thanks Albert, I heard there is another firmware update very soon also. The rest about a R10 well no one will talk about that yet and there not supposed too.

That is good news about the firmware update, but Leica's idea of "soon" may not be the same as ours. There are things that need to be fixed, but the bugs are not getting in the way of my photos, so I'll just be patient. Like Guy said, they can't say boo about the next model, so no surprise there. I have no doubt that there will be an R10 at some point.

Well, maybe the R10 - when it arrives (maybe anounced at PMA?) - will be enough to make be sell the rest of my Canon gear (1Ds2 and remiaing L glass) and buy an R10. Not looking forward to the extra lot of cash required to buy the glass to go with it though
![]() Trying to get to PMA - will have to see.... may need to get some advice from Guy if I ever go R as well as M. Right now I am a happy M camper ![]() Last edited by DaveEP : 02/10/07 at 01:25 AM. |

Do you ever have anything positive to contribute to this forum? If you know the answer to all the problems that Leica might be experiencing and feel that their management team needs help, you should leave Budapest (if that is where you reside in Hungary) and travel to Solms immediately. Your immense knowledge and expertise will be welcome..... Jan |

One Leica person says they haven't heard of it, another one says soon. Make your own conclusions. Mine is that the first person didn't have access to the same information.

Usually you don't announce the new model too early because nobody will buy your existing models. In the case of the DMR, since it is sold out, they certainly aren't going to hurt DMR sales by announcing their future R line plans. |

Jan, It would be preferable, if everybody contributed to a polite and friendly spirit on this Forum. My Hungarian would not even come close to Fenc's English. Michael |

Well, it is for me more than disappointing, that Leica finishes production of the DMR while they do not have a replacement for the R system digital photography.
This and the lack of any communication about their future plans for the R system is not helpful, especially if you take the high price level of this system into account. Having said that I guess there will be much surprise from Canon soon, there is talks about a new FF 22Mp DSLR, which might come with new high performance glass in order to make optimal use of this immense amount of MP. It should be out on market by September 07. If this is really the case then I see the end of the R system pretty close. Why? Because the big asset of Leica was always the superior performance of their glass. If C comes out with a new lens line, then they for sure will have done their homework, making the difference to R glass dissappear and have additionally all their expertise in AF and IS, which Leica at best can start to build up now. Who would want to go then with the Leica R system in the future, even if it adds AF and IS? But it will bring negative surprises like with the M8 as well! For sure not me :-)) Peter |

Canon can come with a 22 Mpix Eos body and the best lenses they can build, I guess some of us will stick with the R and that it will survive. |

I agree the R has survived lots of ups and downs, but lack of a digital body (if there is a long wait for one now the DMR is history) will be its toughest challenge yet. It will be very interesting to see what, if anything, Leica say at PMA. When I was at Photokina, the R-booth was pretty much deserted and the people there looked a bit glum compared to those manning the M-booth around the corner.

I fully agree with you. Please read all of Ferenc's posts 'contributed' to this forum since he joined and you will find that there is a pattern. Nobody's Hungarian will come close to Ferenc's English. Same applies to matters of running companies, making marketing decisions and designing cameras. All in good spirit, Jan |
