Default Leica M8 against Hassy-Leaf-Aptus

... just kidding with respect to the subject line; no pixel peeping here...

But: I was shooting today with a Hassy 503cw with a 17-Megapixel digital back attached (Leaf Aptus-17); my friend took in parallel shots with my M8 and 75-lux.

Both camera systems were synchronized via Pocketwizard's wireless to Profoto strobes.

All of the posted shots are from the M8 with the exception of the last shot - this one is from the Hassy. The first 2 shots were shot during makeup with available light.

Some observations:
- The flash sync of now 1/250 on the M8 came in handy
- There is really no need for a PC flash terminal on the M8; just put a wireless transmitter on the M8 hot shoe and enjoy the cableless operation (as others mentioned before)
- Sharpness is a snap for the 75-lux, since we shot stopped down to f8 with the flashes
- The minimum ISO of 160 is quite high for studio flashes; for such an (unusual) application a mininum ISO of 50 would be preferable
- Exact composition is tough with a rangefinder (no suprise there)
- But the advantage of moving around freely with the M8 is big compared to the heavy Hassy rig on the tripod (and tethered to a MacBookPro)
- All DNG's processed in Raw Developer (incl. Leaf Aptus files).

Enjoy, we shot with the M8 for pure fun today.

Great idea!

The first strobed shot shows a blown out highlight over her left cheekbone.

Were you not able to deal with this in the RAW processing (ie DNG) or was this a jpg?

What software did you use?

Asher

Asher,
Yes, there is a blown out area;
My friend did not pay a lot of attention to exposure; she shot at the 160 ISO of the M8, I was shooting at ISO 50 on the Aptus. She could have easily corrected that.

All raw files - Leica DNG's and Aptus-17 .mos - processed in the most recent version of Raw Developer.
