There is of course a perfectly simple way of solving this dilemma: Buy a 75 Summilux and a 90 Summicron apo. That one has exactly the same character as the 75 Summicron, only even a bit more so.....

You and I have the same decision to make, Noctilux or 75 Summicron, it's interesting to note you have the 50 Summilux Asph and your still searching. |

Jaap, I have considered that, but the trouble is that those are two of the largest lenses in the M lineup. A 75 Cron and 75 Lux is much more compact, and a 75 Cron and non-Asph 50 Lux even smaller...

I like that 75mm focal length. I love my 80 lux on the DMR so if i sold the 80 i have to that look on one lens. The 50 lux is beautiful but it does not have that softy look per say. Something to think about , no real hurry either pretty darn happy with what i have now

Kurt that last one is fabulous ....!!
I love my lux but considered a trade for the cron strictly for size and weight ... even went to the shop today .... but i resisted ... the size/ weight difference was not as signifcant as i expected ... so the lux is here to stay, prefer the pictures from it anyhow! |

Dear Arne
Your capture is the classic 75 lux portrait, sharpness and creamy bokeh in great harmony at lower contrast than the Cron, reminding us the lux is just a magical design a quarter century ago. I agree its still the pinnacle portrait lens. Cheers Matthew |

I own a 75 lux. I would say it is cosmetically a little used. The filter threads are a little banged up and since I don't have a 60mm filter I dont know if it will easily screw on or not. However, the glass is pristine, no marks or scratches.
I would like to trade this lens for a 75cron aspherical, and because of the poor cosmetic condition of my 75 lux, I am willing to pay up to $500 in addition for a mint and possibly coded 75 cron. If anybody is interested in this trade, please contact me soon since i will be posting the lens on ebay soon. |

Bernd, you are unlikely to find anyone to take such a deal. Although the 75 Lux costs over €3000 new, one can find it in great condition, sometimes even almost perfect, for around €1300, whereas the Cron costs over €2000, and is almost impossible to find second-hand.

I think there are quite a number on 75 Summiluxes on the market, as it is a bit of a specialist lens. The Summicron is "easier" to use, so they don't get dumped so often. Supply and demand. Just my 2cents...

The 75 Lux has been around forever. I am planning to buy a 75 Cron new, and a 75 Lux second-hand, later. Even my dealer, Leica Berlin, recommended buying a nearly-new copy at around 1300 Euro, saying that it shouldn't be hard to find one. He is looking for me, and I will likely buy from him, since I can check it out first, and will almost certainly get the original packaging as well. I see others on eBay and in German photo magazine ads and for-sale listings and in other German photo stores with online presences. The 75 Lux is the last lens I would buy new, simply because it is so easy to get a much better price. If I owned one and had paid much more than 1300 Euro, I would probably not sell it, because that just isn't that much money compared to the quality of the lens.

Hi,
I bought a used one in mint condition from *Bay some weeks ago @ €1290, and indeed, they do appear there reasonably often; if you're not in a hurry, you should be able to grab a very nice one at that price... Best regards, Michael |
