Blinzeln Not As Dark As It Seems

If you have any doubts as to whether this forum is monitored by Leica (or at least they hear about what we post here) think again. Check out the latest LFI. The article titled: "Not As Dark as it Seems" on the topic of the M8 and all its initial problems when it hit the market, makes it very clear that disussions on this forum and others like it, are not ignored by Leica. The magenta problem first made known on forums such as ours caught the attention of the company. I believe it was Mark who first discovered the problem on this forum having purchased two M8's. It looks like things would not have moved as fast as they did, regarding solutions, without the venue of this forum.

Cheers,

Leica and many of it's dealers read the forums on a regular basis, I have been told this on several occasions from many leica folks and i have even sent them links to some of the issues at hand. Reason we should keep plugging away at working the issues and coming up with idea's and solutions on the M8. This stuff that we do as users is very important to leica as OEM's and in the long run it helps us all. So yes everything you say and do to test and try and figure out solutions is a benifit to us all. Hopefully the work of many users and reports has helped make solutions faster.

If I'm the Mark your referring to, it wasn't me, it was Pascal, Jamie, Guy and Sean who first got to grips with the problems... as I recall.

When my R8 went TU on a Sunday, and I called Leica UK on the Monday morning, the Customer Service Manager said "Ah, Mr Barton. I was expecting your call this morning".

you will find representatives from most manufacturers cruise many forums
Ive been buzzed by Panasonic people over the sensor issues on other forums
I think it a natural and worthwhile thing to do
it is afterall, cheap feedback, that they can assess over time, either by group or individuals

fact is theyd be crazy not to check it out

Well, it's encouraging to know they are paying attention. We live in an age of instant communication but that aside, with so many people around the world using Leicas, it's like having field labs everywhere. Leica customers are building the company not just by making purchases, but by providing free research and creative solutions to problems. This forum is a valuable resource for the exchange of information and keeping Leica on the up and up.

the net gives them a view on products that they might not get even if they asked for it
with comparisons with competitor products, albeit as people see them, with often transparently inadequate background.

that said, some forums are better than others
the more rowdy shakedown forums of the type of personality people like Ken Rockwell have identified are actually pretty popular. To me, this forum is better than most because of its technical focus and genuine approach. I think you would find there are a lot if visitors who come here for a frank look at M8 in particular. So its a two way street, and a beautiful thing..

This forum is a wonderful resource to Leica.

1. Leica doesn't have to respond, or otherwise deal with a client. What better way to get information, on a pull-only basis.
2. If posters are unhappy, they get it off their chests without a rep having to deal with anything.
3. Leica gets immediate and valuable information.
4. The clients are supporting themselves. People who actually use the tools give advice to newbies (thank you to so many of you -- you know who you are; you know what you did)

Plus, it's civilized. What could be better than this?

Regards to all,
