So I've been reading the threads passionately as to who has been getting their M-8's and from whom. Several people have mentioned this strange behavior from the B&H website where the cameras show "Back-ordered", but if you hit the Show Me -"Instock" button, they mysteriously appear on the page. In my case, just above a telescope that looks like it might be mounted on a sniper rifle.
Well that strange phenomenon showed up again late afternoon today (California or PST time) that wasn't there this morning and I continued to monitor. So about 3:40 PM my time (still showing "back-ordered"), I did some rudimentary calculations (using a sun dial and a Chinese abacus) to calculate that B&H would be closing in roughly 20 minutes. So saying to myself, "Why don't you just give them a call?" and get the skinny on this marvel that many of the Forum members equate with a Nessy or Big Foot sighting. So after navigating the series of questions that the monotone female recorded voice gave me, I somehow ended up in Digital SLR. Now before the die-hards in this group threaten to crucify me and black-list me from the group while screaming "It's a Rangefinder damnit, Whilhelm!" in Old German, I did explain this to the nice gentleman. He quickly transferred me to as best as I understood, Jon. While on the website and gently stroking the little black rectangle on my computer monitor I hesitantly explained to Jon that I had been eyeing the Black M-8's on their website and that there is this strange "artic light" like Phenomenon where...." He quickly interrupted, "Would you like a 2 GB SD card to ship with your new M-8 as well?" Having felt I misunderstood him, I slightly hrrumphed, "Grrrr?" "I'm showing one in stock, are you still interested?", he continued. To make a long story short, I bought the camera (and the SD card ) 7PM EST this evening and they will arrive at my doorstep Monday. He threw in free 2-day shipping when I mentioned I was a NAPP member (I am.) So, gentlemen, I guess the case in point is to pick up the phone when you see the website doing it's thing. |

Exact same with me. I had been on the site several times today, and it did not show. Then, this evening there it was. I thought "what the hell, I'll call them" - so I did. When I got the guy on the phone, he said - sure we have them. So I ordered one. He confirmed the order, and I threw in a "send me 2 if you have them" - so two black ones will be here Friday, along with some cards, hand grips etc.
Interestingly, the DLux3 also shows on the "in stock" page but back ordered - I asked about those too and he said they had none. Kinda wish I had not sent all my newer lenses for coding at once! Danni ...... finally happy |

Goodpoint, but I don't have any lenses. If I had pushed the issue, he seemed in a good mood, I probably would have got that for free as well! |

Thanks for the clarrification Eric, but the intent was to alert people that the cameras seemed to be in and if it was regular business hours to pick up the phone. Seems like a lot of people got their M8s, like myself, after being on wait lists for a long time.
The reason I used Maņana, was there was a thread yesterday that an American wanted to call Solms and someone else chimed in that Americans are incapable of speaking anything but English. I just wanted to show-off my language skills. ![]() |
