In order to use a correction lens I need a -6 diopter lens. Leica offers correction lenses up to only +/- 3 diopters, Does anyone with more knowledge of optics than I possess know if you can put two -3 lenses together to achieve the result of a -6 correction?

Leica advises contacting an optician who will be able to make you the correct lens. They supply the needed ring.

Custom correction lenses are made by Jason Klimak, tel: 810 600 5203 (in U.S.) -
possible address is: 5203 Merit Drive; Flint MI 48506 I think his cell is 810 691 6952 He moved a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure of the above info, but at least one of these phone numbers should work. He has charged me about $150-180 2 or 3 years ago. First you need to get a blank for the diopter from Leica - if in the U.S., call Deve Elwell at 800-222 0118. If you get in touch with him, I'd appreciate your letting me know up to date contact info. Steve |

You cannot stack them. The camera's viewfinder is threaded, and rubberised. So is the magnifier. The diopter is not threaded, and is made of hard plastic, I think, so if you sometimes wear glasses and sometimes use a diopter, and press your glasses against the camera and hear a little *click* from the plastic, then you know there is a diopter in there and you should take your glasses off. Very clever.

Leica sells the correction lens mount separatly for people with asigmatism, no reason why an optichian can't place a straight +/- whatever in that mount. Don't have the part number though.

Thanks for Dave's info -
Sorry for my bad grammar - what I meant was an update for Jason's contact info. Also you should be aware that although he is very reliable (he has made 3 custom diopters for me at different times) - he can be very slow (months sometimes!). Steve |
