Discount Lens Offers

I'm wondering what became of the rumor that Leica was offering a discount on lenses if the M8 was purchased before the end of the year. Has anyone been contacted by Leica? I haven't, I bought mine on the 26th of December.

Have you registered your camera using the link in the first post of the "Leica M8 registration" thread? Its a sticky one on the top of the threads page. If you haven't you should go ahead and do it. When you have, you'll get a letter from Leica wiith the details.

I registered mine, purchased dec 20, and received a response about the filters from Leica, but nothing about the lens offer. (USA)

When I bought mine on 12/27, my saleman told me that the offer applied only to the first (flawed) batch of cameras, not the ones with the updated sensors and firmware. I don't know if this is true, but I thought I'd throw it out.

Well, I did get a second batch M8 and the discount offer from Germany. I had pre-registered my M8, that's probably why I got my letter along with most others in the US in the week around 12/25.

More importantly, the letter itself clearly states anyone who has paid in full by December 31st, 2006, is eligible. Assuming you've registered the M8 (and thus provided Leica AG with an address to mail the letter to), you should get the letter with everyone else whenever Leica does send it out (with the right price list).

I should clarify some more: when I wrote that I got the letter, I meant the first version of the letter, where the prices were in Euros. I got this letter around the same time as my M8 (after Dec 25). I don't know if anyone in the US has received the updated price list (in USD) yet.

Purchasing or paying in full, before Dec 31 is the critical trigger.

Your letter will come eventually. They are not fast with their paperwork, but it does get done. There is a reviewed letter, for each country, being prepared as I understand it. I have the euro price list letter but am expecting an update sometime. You will be given until June 30, 2007 to confirm your order for a discount lens.

It isn't a rumor and if you're one of the registered owners that the offer applies to I'd suggest contacting Leica if you haven't received "the letter".

Probably the best way would be to contact your region's Leica rep through your dealer. I actually don't have a general e-mail address for Leica USA customer service but it may be on their site. Or do you live outside the US?

The US email contact is technicalinfo@leicacamerausa.com. Another one is M8.Support@leica-camera.com. Both are pretty good at answering M8 questions.

I received an email just this morning from Steffen Schmidt at Leica saying the new letters will be sent out "within the next days."

I received my letter and the various follow-up's correcting the mispricing of the "Nocti about 2 weeks after online registration..

I believe the offer is for any purchase in full by 12/31/06
Do we need any "as-of" stuff here?

I registered online for the filters and got a response letting me know it was successful, and I also mailed the Card registration with the camera to cover all bases. So I suspect the discount letter will arrive in the next two weeks. Does anyone know if there is a time limit on when the new lens is to be purchased?

June 30, 2007, according to the first version of the letter.

No letter received also here. I bought and paid in full the M8 in November and registered as soon as the registration became available. Currently my M8 is in Solms for upgrade. I wonder how many letters have been received yet within Europe.

Exactly the same here (Netherlands) ........... but i am not looking forward to the letter ...

I received the initial letter (w/the price list in Euros) during Xmas week, about 2 weeks after I registered the camera on-line. I received an email from "M8.Support@leica-camera.com" re: the updated price list on December 29th. I haven't received any updated price list, yet.

If purchases can be made as late as June 30th, perhaps by then I may be ready to spring for a 50mm Summilux, ASPH :-) :-) :-)
