Default IR/CUT coating on rear lens element...??

I overheard some Leica people today, they talked about some Japanese people having had their rear lens element IR/UV cut coated by some filter company in Japan, this way they did not get problems with cyan vignetting, filter reflextions, and so on, i was about to ask one of them about where he have got this info from, but after unmounting my tripod and packing up my equipment the guys left with a train right in front of me....anyone else heard about this possibility...?, sounds expensive, but great....

If it is doable, I bet that Leica is looking into it as we speak!

The front element doesn't work. The surface needs to be perpendicular to the incoming rays, as far as possible, but look at the 35 Cron and Lux, and some of the 28s. They are concave! I don't know if the rear element work, especially wide open, but it seems more likely.

The best thing to do theoretically is to put a filter next to the diaphragm. For Leica on new lenses that is. It does not seem to be a diy job

Wouldn't it be a great idea if they could do it though...

And maybe lens IR-cut coating isn't a good idea because some users don't want IR-cut coated lenses for whatever reason (e.g. IR photography)?

PS: Meant as a question, not as a statement. Some of us still use cameras with films inside...

I wouldn't think putting an coating on either end of the lens is a good idea, but if I had to choose, the rear of the lens sees smaller angles than the front in reverse telephotos like today's wide angles, sometimes by a large margin.
