Default M8 à la carte?

Does anyone believe/know if Leica might offer à la carte orderable M8s at some point in the future? Would love to be able to customize an M8

I'm sure they will, but since they can't keep up with demand at the moment I wouldn't expect to see the option in the near future.

The eggplant, or aubergine, may be such a dark purple that it appears almost black, or it may be as white as an egg. It may be almost violet or even green. Some eggplant are even a varigated blend of many colors. Whatever color your eggplant is, it still makes for a good meal.

to the pleasure of no one, LEICA has made different viewfinder magnifications available only to a-la-carte buyers. yet this could be a useful option for those who want to use their newly (by crop) created telelenses at full aperture.

I will pre-order one instantly if I can customize (make it an inter-changeable one) the IR cut filter!

Let us have a sign-up campaign! Solms would oblige if 1,000 signatures are there, right?

That number is close to all the M8s sold thusfar!

I'd go for that, but only if I can have the MP style wind-on lever.....

Hi John - if someone wants a black paint M8 with red leather and their name engraved . . . . why not? It'll bring in another $1000 towards the development of your M9.

I'm sure that getting Hermes out of the pictures was a good thing, but it seems to me that anything which is profitable (assuming it is) is good for all of us.

Incidentally, your profile still says 'M8 on order'

Best Wishes

I would take one with an old-style winding lever, an ISO dial where the film rewind knob used to be, and no Leica red dot (or black). I might also change the covering material to leather.

I'd deselect the "Doubles as an IR camera" and check the "Less Noisy Shutter" options.

I'll order an "à la carte" immediatly.

No M8 and red dot on the front.

Another leatherette cladding, vulkanit maybe.

And no 90mm and 75mm frames in the finder.

A la carte? You mean like calves hides softened by extended rubbing on the delicious thighs of yodelling alpine maidens? Good grief.

OK then; whilst I can see that some might enjoy a little chamber to take strips of light sensitive material in a can I think the M8 has nodded too detrimentally in the legacy direction. But there are some additions I could be tempted to buy into; amongst other things I would like an ergonomic shape with an angled shutter release at the top [again, just like modern cameras of recent years], a thumb-wheel shutter speed control [like modern cameras], a flash socket [like ancient and modern cameras] and as an option to the direct viewfinder a clutter free, bright zoom finder covering a moderately reasonable range of focal lengths for the M format. Oh yes, and a roll of black tape peel off patches to cover up the M8 and red dot signatures beloved of watchful street scallies. With regard to the last point; I concede to being somewhat 'old school'.

My name is Chris,..............and I'm a heretic.

I'll be OK. I'm about to take my medication.

You are indeed a heritic Chris :-). Buy a softie and you can take a shot with the lightest of pressure from the last knuckle of your index finger. Not only that but you can use the edge of the same finger to channge the shutter speed :-)

Not so mr big... To know a conceptual metaphor is to know the set of mappings that applies to a given source-target pairing.

If they'd provide these option then I may give it a shot:

1. a 0.85 finder ... with 35, 50 and 90 framelines ... 100 dollars
2. an adequate IR cut filter in front of the sensor ... i'd pay 500 dollars
3. a detachable AA filter ... 50 dollars
4. user selectable 16-bit/8-bit DNG ... 50 dollars
5. an accessory color meter ... 200 dollars
