D-lux3......... The wait drive me nuts !

D-lux3. The wait drive me nuts !
My fiance order me a D-Lux 3 for Christmas from amazon.com.
And as most of you knows, the camera is in back order.
She's got a email from them, saying that I should receive it sometime at the end of January or early February.
But, with all the rumors, about Panasonic pulling the plug on the making of the D-Lux 3.
I'm wondering if I will ever get it ?
Does anybody knows if Leica will fill-up all the pre-order or Should I look for a other digicamera ?

It is hard for me to believe that Leica or Panasonic would stop selling a camera that was only announced in September. I would be patient. If you want another small sensor camera I would recommend the Ricoh GR-D, which has a fixed f/2.4 28mm-equivalent that is excellent and a 21mm-equivalent that is also outstanding.

I got the GR-D in July and then bought the D-Lux 3 a couple of weeks ago when I was in Hong Kong because I wanted also to be able to shoot at 40-50mm-equivaloent. You can see my pictures with both cameras here:

I've made huge prints, as 100x133cm or 40x52 inches, of some of these pictures.

But I cannot reason myself, When it comes to toys ( I know it's not a toy ) I don't know what ZEN means !

I know exactly how you feel. Before X-Mas I confirmed with Leica here in South Africa that they had Digilux-3 in stock - "We have plenty" is what I was told. So, come 2nd January I ordered one. Now all of a sudden I've been told that they don't have any in SA, and that they are not expecting any new shipments of any products until end January. They don't even know if there getting Digilux-3's in this shipment. So, it looks like I'll be waiting until mid Feb at best - I'll just sit here and read the forum, while I watch paint dry, how utterly exciting...

That's it.
An other month pass by and I receive an email from Amazon.com, saying that it may take an other couple month to fulfill my order.

So, two days ago when I went to drop some films to be processed at Samy's camera store in Los Angeles. I noticed a d-lux 3 on display. So I asked and they are telling me, they have few in stock but silver

So here I am jumping on this opportunity and living the store with a brand new SILVER D-LUX 3.

And you know what ?
I prefer the silver compare the black !

I believe that everything happen for a reason and it's what it took for me to get the best of them ! ( In my opinion )

I was able to get a silver D-LUX 3 from Tamarkin. However, they are now out of stock. 17th Street Photo had a few in stock but the silver and the black are pretty much impossible to find. You can go to eBay if you are looking to pay a small premium.

My Leica rep says we should be getting some silver DLux-3's soon, not all that we have ordered but a few.
