La Cie introduced its Blu-Ray external disk drive:

Has there been any serious testing of the Blu-Ray technology for long-term storage? 50 GB on a DVD sounds enticing.

I was aware of the Phthalocyanine versus Cyanine or Azo dye deterioration issue but I had no idea of the enormous benefit of DVD+R over DVD-R as archival media, or for that matter the inherent frailty in the DVD-R data retrieval system.

Using (Taio Yuden) DVD+R media is a no-brainer!

Neither did I until today. I have religiously been using DVD-R until now. Scary.
