I am in a bind - of sorts. So far I have been using my old 35 and 50 mm f2 Summicrons and, occasionally, the 90 mm TeleElmarit. And, just for fun the 135 - which works well with some experimentation.
I have a CV 15 on order which I am looking forward to and a 28mm 2.8 Elmarit that I may or may not take delivery of. Now comes the Leica-deal question. Should I take the 28-35-50 Tri Elmar or the 35mm F2 Summilux? The lux could be my primary lens, I am kind of a 50 mm person; but the TriElmar could be an all round going-out lens as I do not care to lug too many lenses around on the boat. What do you think? Many thanks for all your ideas.

Hi George,
Possibly a typo but the Summilux is a f/1.4. Given the fact that you already have the 'cron, how do you feel about that FL?. I have the 35 Summilux asph and I find it very usefull, but not wide enough for "places" type shots, But due to the speed and sharpness it's become the main lens I'm using at the moment. The 50 is way to narrow for most of the pictures I take. I don't know much about the T'elmar, except it's a lot slower at f/4. You already have a 15mm on order and a question over the 28 and now the 35 Lux. It's a lot of cash for glass. 15mm, 28mm, 35mm f/1.4 50 f/2 is also a lot of stuff to carry around. I can see your temptation for the tri-elmar but it might catch you out in low light stuff. I have opted for 21mm Elmarit Asph, 35mm Summilux Asph, 50mm Summicron and 75mm Summicron Asph for the moment. |

Agree about the speed - f4 is a whole 3 stops less than the Summilux and if you care about shallow DoF, the Summilux is the way to go. The T-E is fine if you want to step out with just a single lens, but the Summilux is a fine lens.
