Default Lightroom and FX01, C-Lux1

I started using Adobe's Lightroom recently. It opens up some interesting possibilities for owners of FX01 and C-Lux 1 cameras. The big advantage is that you can change color and tonality automatically. This is done by creating presets and applying them when the photos are loaded into Lightroom.

Making, testing, and updating presets takes work. I think the payoff is worth it: images look their best as soon as you open them in Lightroom, without need of repetitive adjustments. And if people trade information it could make the process a bit easier.

The preset files are text files and can be opened up and read in a text editor. They can also be copied from one computer to another or even posted on the Internet.

Here are current Lightroom settings for my FX01 photos made using Daylight WB, Standard Color Adjust, and usually -2/3 ev.

Basic (only change here is highlight recovery to 20)
WhiteBalance = "As Shot",
AutoExposure = false,
HighlightRecovery = 20,
Exposure = 0,
FillLight = 0,

Tone Curve (what I do here is bump the Dark up to 30)
ToneDarks = 30,
ToneHighlightSplit = 75,
ToneHighlights = 0,
ToneLights = 0,
ToneMidtoneSplit = 50,
ToneShadowSplit = 25,
ToneShadows = 0,

Camera Calibration (I use less red and shift all three colors)
CameraProfile = "Embedded",
RedHue = -11,
RedSaturation = -7,
GreenHue = -10,
GreenSaturation = 0,
ShadowTint = 0,
BlueHue = -4,
BlueSaturation = 0,

I find that Lightroom is still a little rough around the edges. You may want to wait until it is released before diving in.

Default Re: Lightroom v. 1 and FX01

I'm updating this for Lightroom version 1.0. The adjustment scales have changed a lot from the beta version. Also my strategy for settings has changed. Again, this is for FX01 using Daylight WB, Standard Color Adjust, and usually -2/3 ev.

Basic Section

HighlightRecovery = 4,
FillLight = 13,

Tone Curve

Darks = 10,

HSL Hue

HueAdjustmentRed = -7,
HueAdjustmentOrange = -5,
HueAdjustmentYellow = 5,
HueAdjustmentGreen = -5,
HueAdjustmentAqua = 0,
HueAdjustmentBlue = -2,
HueAdjustmentPurple = -5,
HueAdjustmentMagenta = -2,

HSL Saturation

SaturationAdjustmentRed = -12,
SaturationAdjustmentOrange = -12,
SaturationAdjustmentYellow = -12,
SaturationAdjustmentGreen = -12,
SaturationAdjustmentAqua = -6,
SaturationAdjustmentBlue = 0,
SaturationAdjustmentPurple = 0,
SaturationAdjustmentMagenta = -6,

Bruce

Lightroom is an excellent product, imho. I use it extensively for pre-processing RAW from my D-LUX 2 and Nikon D80. I also use it for my FX-01. Thanks for the presets, I must try them out when my colleague returns my FX-01 (I lent it to her for a weekend and so far I think she is having so much fun with it she doesn't want to give it back!).

You say it is an exellent product. May I assume you are only referring to it as a raw conversion and screen view application. Do you use a seperate DAM software to search and catalogue as I have LIghtroom dreadful to search on IPTC,EXIF and as a basic DAM appplication. If only it was a combination of DXO, Iview, Aperture, Photoshop, and Lightroom and photoshop elements, Noise Ninja

Regards

Darrell, I think you will find that V1 has much improved search/catalogue fuunction over the Betas.

thanks V1 is a lttle better i the basic areas and quicker I have installed it. I have tried but I cannot simply click camera type and get all pictures taken with a specfic model. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place

The FX01 cannot deliver RAW files. This makes the nondestructive editing of JPEGs in Lightroom a very big feature for me.

I agree with spylaw4 the cataloging and searching has improved with v. 1. It could be better, but I'm not a professional and I delete a lot, so I can live with Lightroom for now. I expect it will continue to improve in many areas, including DAM.
