Default M8 Luigi case question

I'm wondering if anyone might have an opinion regarding the Luigi case for the M8. On his site, I've noticed that there's a nifty flap/cover for the LCD and controls. This seems ideal for keeping it clean while shooting, particularly for me because I tend to shoot for a while without reviewing photos until later. But would there be any concern about the leather flap damaging the LCD or controls, or inadvertently pushing buttons, etc.?

I'm fairly new to this forum but have appreciated learning from everyone. I'm a proud M6 shooter with an M8 on the way.

The wife bought me a Luigi case for the D2 two years ago.

The case is superb, and does not operate any buttons that I've experienced so far . . . and the display remains perfect and protected.

How this relates to the M8 is in question, but I imagine they would have similar properties.

I have the new Luigi M8 case with the snap on back. I use it without the back all the time. The case thickness provides the protection I need for the buttons and screen. I also use a plastic screen protector film.

I LOVE this case. I have the "rally" color with my silver M8 and it looks like I am carrying a 50 year old camera.

The cases are beautifully made! My only concern is how to conveniently open the base plate with the case on the camera. Right now I do this (without any case on the camera) with my left hand holding the camera as well as the left hand's fingers holding the base plate (I just pivot it out not totally remove it) and inserting the card from my right hand. This is almost as convenient as opening the card door in my Canon 5D. With the case on the camera this technique would not be possible.

Thanks for that observation. I suppose I'm figuring that a good 2GB card will allow me close to 200 shots even shooting RAW, and based on my shooting style I won't need to change the card much. Your technique looks great, though!

Hi Tim, you are right, a 2GB card can hold a lot. Once I settle down into the daily rhythm of making pictures I think that I too will not be changing cards that often. I have been looking at the Luigi’s cases for some time, they look so beautiful, but have not made up my mind. I guess to change cards one could hold the case in the left hand’s fingers and not have to search for a spot to place the case on. By the way I saw this technique on a video from a photography convention so it is not my invention

I have bought a black leather Luigi case for the M8 with the detachable flap. In one word 'great'. Very beautiful and makes the M8 easier to handle in my opinion. I chose the 'screw' in the bottom too, so that I can mount the M8 on a tripod.
The flap can be detached easily when taking pictures and re-attached when moving around.

Hi

Did you get the case with the built in grip or the plain one?

Does anyone know if the Luigi case supports the M Grip?

Luigi makes a version with a large lump, similar to the M grip, built into the case. If you sort through his site you'll find a picture.

His standard case includes a peanut-sized llump on the shutter-button side front. This plus the leather surface makes the camera much more comfortable to hold.

The workmanship is beautiful.

I have Luigi's M8 standard half case in black with removable back, complete with the matching improved deluxe strap. My problem is that i cannot make up my mind whether i prefer the M8 with or without. I always had one of Luigi's cases on my Epson R-D1, it just made the Epson R-D1 feel better in a tactile sort of way, however the Leica M8 fells great with and without.

Thanks, Brad. I happen to use a swivel on my M6, too. I find it's easier to hide the fact that I'm carrying my camera when it's over one shoulder that way.

It looks good in the case, and it's well protected. Nice choice.

I can't answer for the last post but I can tell you that the place I got mine -- Leicagoodies.com -- has closed down. They say it's temporary.

I have found some workable alternatives by visiting the hardware store but they aren't as elegant. The key concern (for me at least) is to situate the thing so it doesn't damage the camera around where it's connected. So far this Leicagoodies swivel has been great for that.

Do the metallic clip-on buttons interfere with your hand or with your face when handholding the camera ?

Very nice case btw.
