What's that in real money?
£2700? Someone has something wrong. that's only £700 more than an M7...

Andy,
Exactly if Leica can pull this off it will be a real seller and in some sense we shouldn't be surprised. It will contain much less mechanical parts --> the expensive stuff It would not price itself out of the all important American market Cheers, Tim |

Question #1, is rembrandt a "real" Leica dealer and not a gray market guy?
Comment #1: since I have been beating the dead horse that the M8 has no expensive shutter and so on and should therefore be chaper, and since I have been getting beaten up for this position, will this dead horse run in the rembrandt stakes only, or is this a real price for a future?

Oh please, this is old news. How can any dealer offer to sell the camera at any price when it's not even launched yet?
I contacted them more than a month ago wanting to order a camera providing they would honour that price. Did they reply? Of course not. Forget it. The price is more likely to be €4500 including typical European tax, $4995 + US tax, £3250 including UK VAT.

Burke,
€3.900 is with VAT included, so you need to subtract 16% So €3276 and 4172.34 USD. Bill, I am with you all the way, the 3 things which cost money on the M8 is 1. the camera house 2. The sensor 3. The optical viewfinder /T |

This is good news.
A few people on the forum have said that they've already put their name down for an M8 with their local dealers. I'm assuming that they paid a deposit of some sort - in doing so did any of them get a definite price from their dealers? Does it compare to Rembrandt's? I guess if not, we might not hear from them (!!) but I'd be interested to know, especially from those in the UK. Ade |

Here in the Netherlands, a very well respected camera shop is taking orders. Their price expectations , without vat is €3000.

It doesn't seem to matter what the price is, the first two year's production will be sold out and they will soon appear second-hand at $1000 dollars more. Oh well I shall just have to wait till the graph turns downwards.

The key word there is "Prijsverwachting" - "Expected Price", but that is all down to how realistic their expectations are.
That figure of €3000 would put it at only €130 more than an M7 and about €1300 less than a DMR without a camera to attach it to. You may be right, it would be good if the camera only cost £2500 incl VAT or $3800 + tax. I'd be surprised though. On a separate note, I notice Leica Berlin are offering €100 off any uncoded lens which neatly covers the cost of putting one on if you want it.

Being cynical, the lower the 'expected' price, the more deposits they'll get to put in the bank and earn interest on ;-)

Just to clarify one issue, of course the M8 (or however it will be dubbed) needs a shutter. What I know is that the camera will get the R9-metal leaf shutter. What I do not know is whether you still have to manually cock the shutter (which is what I would expect) or whether there is an electric motor taking care of the cocking operation.
