Default Got a thin 486 filter -- really nice

I got my last filter, at 60mm B+W 486, in the thin mount, from Adorama. I wondered what the deal would be without the outside screw fitting, but it comes with a push-on cap in black plastic-composite that I really like. It's smaller and lighter (it IS just a cap, tho) and easier to work with than the snap-in lens caps. Because it's so thin itself, it fits in the pocket very nicely.

So, I've got all my filters, now: 24, 35/1.4 asph, 50/1.4 asph, and 75/1.4. I find that I can fit all this stuff in the small shoulder bag from Eagle Creek that was so praised in a "bag" thread on the old Forum. It looks like nothing -- really important to me -- and has 2 full-size zipper pouches and a bunch of pockets.

Here's a shot of the skinny filter and the cap, with the 75 'Lux, taken with the 50 'Lux at 5.6, iso 2500, hand-held at 1/24, closest focusing distance (center of cap in focus), reduced in size from the raw to a jpg and white balance, nothing else.

glad you got the filter, bill. nice that the market for them seems to be loosening up- i just got a notice that one 55mm i had on backordered from b&h shipped yesterday. they still show out of stock on many sizes, but at least they're getting stock to satisfy backorders.

Bill--
Sounds as if you're ready to travel! Could you give any more info on the bag? Model number or name possibly?

Thanks!

Howard, it's an Eagle Creek bag but has no other info on it. I just went to the old forum to see if I could search for the "bag" thread, but I can't seem to do a search there.

I also went to the Eagle Creek site and did an Eagle Creek search, but this bag is not a current model. Sorry about that.

I bought it early this year and it has been hanging in my closet because the D2 was a bigger camera than the M8. I just hauled it out for a trial and it fits the M8 and lenses ok.

This bag looks quite similar

and is pretty cheap.

This one also looks handy

I think I have 4 bags of diffenent sizes -- and use a backpack a lot. Whatever doesn't look like anything. That's the trick.

Gosh, Bill! I didn't intend for you to do my research for me.

Thanks for the links. I always feel a new camera needs its own new bag, even when that leaves my older bags empty.

Thanks again!

Tony Rose is getting a shipment of B+W 39mm and 46mm IR cut filters today. I picked up one each to go along with the free ones I'm getting from Leica.

Just bought a B+W IR/CUT E39 from them this minute, their still in stock (39/46/55) but they "are going fast", so be quick folks...

Howard, regards. When I realized I had posted for something no one could get I felt like a real doofus.

I am thinking about bags and I think if I designed one it wouldn't be right. How can this be so hard?

My New Year's resolution is to find the perfect all-round camera bag, wide lenses that go to 1.4, software that processes my diginegs in batch by recognizing the degree of processing they need, a printer that turns the image when I forget to do so, and a room full of people to tell me how good the prints are.

Happy New Year to all.
