Default M8 v1.09 firmware, supported lenses list

Couldn't help my self so I took a look at the m8 update binary in a hex viewer. Found the lens code table. Here is what we can see from that. Each lens' number value is it's position in the table - a very common thing to do, saves space for the number. This fits the 'map' as published by Carsten.

00: Uncoded
01: 2.8/21; 11134
02: Empty
03: 2.8/28; 11804
04: 2.8/90; 11800
05: 1.4/50; 11868/11856
06: 2.0/35; 11310/11311
07: 2.0/90; 11136/11137
08: Empty
09: 2.8/135; 11829/11829
10-15: Empty
16: 4/16-18-21; 11626
17:-22: Empty
23: 2.0/50; 11817
24: 2.8/21; 11135/11897
25: 2.8/24; 11878/11898
:
42: 4/28-35-50@; 11890/11894/11625

The rest is as listed by Carsten and interestingly there are no additional lenses listed in the table.

Interresting, no leaked information about the 24/2 and 28/1.4 then...

The order is a bit weird. There are also two lenses missing in the firmware which Leica had said would be coded. I wonder if this means that they will be coded the same as their more modern successors? (50 Lux II, 50 Cron IV).

Great detective work! I have updated the table, and left the two missing lenses at the top. I will leave the codes above in brackets until we have photos for confirmation.

I’m wondering if Leica is going to introduce a new 15mm lens. This way we’d get the 20mm on the M8. I’m wondering too which would be the price?
I’m still waiting for my M8!!! Please, come before Christmast! Dear!
Cheers!

I guess this is what the WATE is for. Unless they want to introduce a huge and expensive and distorsion free 15mm/2.8...

ActuallI I missed those last night (it was approaching midnight here and I have a bad cold so I should have been in bed...). Why I missed the 50 'lux is beyond me, the 'cron was so far down the list I didn't check it against your table. Anyway, you can add this:

05: 1.4/50; 11868/11856
33: 2.0 /50; 11819/11825/11826/11816

I went though the full list again and some additional info appeared; for the 50 Elmar you can add product number "11824" which may be a black paint edition that was released with teh millenium M6TTL in 2000. I'm not 100% sure though, but it is listed with 11823 and 11831 in the table so it's the same lens.

They've decided to label the 90 macro elmar and the macro elmar adapter the same as far as text is concerned, just "4.0/90" and then the product number. If this is text that is written to the EXIF information you can distinguish them using the product numer. This is speculation as I don't have a DNG and a in camera JPEG written by a 1.09 M8 with a coded lens I can't verify it.

- Carl

Edit: Actually I didn't miss the 50 'lux - Carsten you missed it in my original post ;-)

Slightly OT but as you mention is Pascal, I'm a bit concerned at the apparent distortion of this lens - the rows of houses did not look good and there was clear distortion in the test kitchen shots.

Given the other problems of the filter and coding, it's not a must have for me, yet.

I'm still sulking 'cause they won't assign a code for my 50/1.2 Noctilux.

It is just a bit rare, eh? Try the new Noctilux and the old Summilux. Somewhere I am sure you will come close to the right correction.

All added. I don't find the 11824 anywhere, not even on Google, so it must have been extremely rare. New list up in my sig.

*cough*, no no, surely you are mistaken. Did you edit that original post? No, hmm, well it must have been... the weather...
