This is the site to download the awaited Firmware 1.09 for M8:
http://www.leica-camera.de/photograp...ad-121_10.html For all of you eagerly waiting for the update: you need a card reader to do so. Very first impression: playing images much faster especially magnifying happens immediately without the pixeling… Ciau Holger |

Guy - Unfortunately this kills the theory of 1.09 being related to the "hardware" fix for the 1.06 cameras.
My other concern is then that they say 1.10 is for the IR filter use. HELP!!!!! What about the vertical banding? Ray |

Thanks Scot , wondering what that really means the internal processing engine.

Guy, I just did it. So much about our exchanges this morning.
The instructions, loosely translated, say: Format the card in the camera. Turn off camera, put card in cardreader. Move the downloaded m8-1 . . etc stuff onto the second line of your card folder display - below DCIM Put the SD card back into camera and turn it on. Agree to have the new firmware installed. It takes about 180 seconds. Good Luck.

One more thing. It says on the bottom of the German text that 1.09 is for internal process optimization. Whatever that means.

1: Format the SD card i the M8
2: Switch the M8 off, place your card in your compter's card reader. A reader is required for the update. 3: Copy the file named m8-1_xx.upd to the root of the card ( as shown in the pdf) 4: Remove the card from your card reader in an orderly fashion (i.e. make sure you close the card before you remove it). Put the card in the camera and replace the bottom plate. Switch the camera on using the main switch. 5: Confirm that you wnat to update the camera to version 1.xx. 6: If yor battery isn't sufficiently charged you will be see a warning message. 7: The update takes about 180 seconds. Shut the camera off when you're told using the main switch, it can now be switched on again. Note: In Feb07 firmware v1.10 will be availabe that handles the use of wide angle lenses and the UV/IR filters. Fixed in this release is internal process optimalization . |

Ray,
There is no reason why 1.10 can't fix that too, if it is at all fixable in fw. It dosen't say 'the only thing 1.10 does...'. The vertical banding thing is too new for this to have made it into and around Leica engineering, doc writing, marketing etc. etc. Let the guys breathe! Feb07, Ok time to take a few long breaths and stick it out until I see what this does for the camera. - C Last edited by cbretteville : 12/19/06 at 11:10 PM. |

Pascal,
I emailed the address that I was given for Roger Horn in the US and the Customer Service email for Leica AG. Do you have a specific email address that I should send samples to and ask for a response? Ray |

I sent a message to Leica USA with a link to the "M8 1.09 & Filter PROBLEMS (Summary)" thread to make sure they knew of the issue and to make sure it would be fixed while my M8 is still at Solms. They responded that they forwarded my message to Germany and assured me it would be fixed before my camera is returned. They promised to let me know if there are updates. At a minimum, we know they are now aware of it, and hopefully can find a quick fix.
Probably the more people that they hear about it from the better. |
