Default Some Thoughts With First Test of Revised M8

An M8 with the hardware changes (M8.2?) arrived today for testing. I'm just doing some casual tests to start with but here are some notes and questions:

I'm photographing our Christmas tree right now to see if I can invoke the light streaking that affected previous M8s. So far, I can't see any evidence of it at any ISO. Will be testing "old" M8 and "new" M8 side by side.

Christmas lights (ours at least) are heavy in IR radiation; just full of it, in fact. The Schneider filters pulled all of the color cast. I will be testing this against the B+W 486 and the Heliopan.

This camera has firmware 1.09 and, with the filter on a 21 Elm. Aspherical, there is little vignetting or cyan drift (red vignetting) evident in this picture series.

I have not yet seen the banding, that Ray and Jorge T. have discussed, at any ISO. I would think that a Christmas tree in a dim room would invoke this but I haven't seen a trace yet. Ray, if you have a specific subject/lighting condition you'd like to try, let me know and I'll try it if I can.

I haven't yet seen filter flare with this MRC 486 filter on the Elm. 28, even when shooting straight into these Christmas lights. The jury is still out on other lenses with that filter on the M8. Again, if someone has "favorite" (?) conditions that have invoked this, please let me know.

Cheers,

Sean

None of the newly discovered vertical banding, just to the right of center?

I haven't seen a trace of it yet. I also have access to a second "revised" body that I'll test as well.

Cheers,

Sean

This is with the 21 Elm at ISO 1250 with a B+W 486 filter mounted. I've yet to see the vertical band from this camera.

Cheers,

Sean

I'll keep an eye out for this vertical streak but it may be that it's only present in some cameras. Too soon to say...

All mine were done in C1 as well.

Cheers,

Sean

1st one is ACR and the exposure control is all the way up on both of them . 2nd one is C1 with every noise filter off and nothing there

Guy,

It there clear as daylight in the first picture of post #17.

It is also in the first picture with the book shelf. It starts on the right side of the bracket holding the shelf up.

Look at your monitor from a different angle for the one onpost #17

Guy,

Lindsay is correct. It is in the one with the bookshelf.

I see the vertical in post# 17 top. Also there is a weaker horizontal band down about 20% from the top

I also see the book shelf vertical, but it fades out once it gets out of the shadows.

What I am surprised at is the difference when processed in C1. Not only is the banding gone, but there is much less noise. What gives?
Is this a ACR issue? and if so, why?
