philipus Posted September 8, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know any dealer in Europe that has Photoflex or Calumet changing rooms in stock? Photoflex here in the Netherlands reports it will take 4-6 weeks for them to get one in. Ag Photographic tells me they are looking for a replacement for the Calumet model they used to sell but have no news when this will happen. Ebay and similar don't show any availability either. I know there are also the Harrison tents but they are at a much higher price point so I am not considering them, at least not new. Thanks for any insights Philip
Advertisement Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Hi philipus, Take a look here Where do I find changing rooms/tents in Europe?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dgc Posted September 8, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2014 I was searching ebay for darkroom equipment the other day and recalled seeing a changing bag and have just found the link below. LargeDark Bag for changing lightsensitive paper cassettes for Minilabs & Studios | eBay It says the bag is made by Crown Photo Systems and after a quick search I found the following website but it is all in Japanese ! You may have better luck ! www.crownphoto.co.uk David
topoxforddoc Posted September 8, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2014 Philip, are you just looking for somewhere to load your film into a daylight tank? If so, a large changing bag would be fine.
philipus Posted September 9, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted September 9, 2014 Yes I considered a bag but I have a rather large tank and would also want the space that a popup tent offers. I have in the meantime accepted Photoflex's waiting time and ordered one from them.
250swb Posted September 9, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2014 Yes well err, Calumet sell the Calumet changing 'tent'. It isn't very expensive. But another UK company that seems to sell all the same sorts of darkroom equipment is 'First Call' Photographic and Digital Imaging Supplies UK - Firstcall Photographic Steve

Ag Photographic told me that because Calumet went bankrupt in the US that tent is not being sold anymore. This is why I wondered if there might be any dealers that still have some stock but that seems unlikely. First Call doesn't have the Calumet tent or any other type of tent for that matter. 250swb Posted September 10, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Here, but it seems they are waiting for new stock https://www.calphoto.co.uk/product/calumet-changing-room/RM1000/ but this one looks identical to the Calumet branded version http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Professional-52x44-Film-Changing-Tent-Double-Layers-Double-Zipper-Anti-Static-/171268283353?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27e0629bd9 Steve Edited September 10, 2014 by 250swb

philipus Posted November 19, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted November 19, 2014 Well my Photoflex tent has arrived and I am very pleased indeed. Folds flat into a cover and pops up easily. Very convenient indeed.
gbealnz Posted November 20, 2014 Share #10 Posted November 20, 2014 Man this forum is dangerous. All this talk about changing bags (yes, I used them extensively back in the "old days") has me thinking that I need one. I mean, unloading the camera, and loading the developing tank needs a dark night, where I lock myself in the wardrobe currently. So much more civilized to be able to do this "in the light". That auction site has them, and I now have one on the way. Gary
pico Posted November 21, 2014 Share #11 Posted November 21, 2014 Just shutter the windows and go to bed with your gear, pull the blankets over and there Ya go. Here in the Winterland we can take our Winter coats and zip and pull the draw strings, thrust arms through the sleeves. It is really easy to make natural darkness, and impossible to make natural light.
M9reno Posted November 29, 2014 Share #12 Posted November 29, 2014 I suspect many of the scratches on my film come from fiddling around in the relatively tight confines of a changing bag, with cassette parts, scissors, etc in the way. The more space, the less stress, so back into the darkness of the basement for me.
philipus Posted November 29, 2014 Author Share #13 Posted November 29, 2014 I suspect many of the scratches on my film come from fiddling around in the relatively tight confines of a changing bag, with cassette parts, scissors, etc in the way. The more space, the less stress, so back into the darkness of the basement for me. That would have been ideal in my case but alas our house doesn't have a suitable room to set up a darkroom in. Having now used the Photoflex tent I feel confident it was a good buy. It is roomy enough for unwieldy things like splitting a 400ft roll of 5222 into two 200ft rolls. Seems very well made.
