No point as the M9 is probably going to be a FF rangefinder and there are no rangefinder cams on existing R lenses. Also, the camera has to be usable with long focus R lenses between 135mm and 800mm focal lengths and all R zoom lenses and 135mm seems to to be the limit for a rangefinder system.
Thus the EVF concept still seems the best option. But then again, R lenses could end up so cheap on the used market that it would be possible to 'double-up' on some focal lengths and build a digital TLR ![]() Cheers dunk

Very interesting. It's good that Leica is taking notice of the forum, and thank you Andreas for all your hard work.
It looks like the M9 is definitely an area to watch; truly a shame about the R10. I still very much favor a simpler, more user-friendly compact Leica, with or without interchangeable lenses. |

"Verkitten" is a verb and means (in lens design) "to cement". Hence, "Kittglieder" (noun, plural) are "cemented members". I rather presume that means "cemented assemblies or groups of lenses" but it also could mean "individual members of a cemented group".

Whether developing a "digital use" for R-lenses or developing a new M9, I'm afraid digital photography without autofocus portends a VERY limited future for Leica.

Indeed, like the very limited past of Leica. Over the last sixty years there have been on average less than 18.000 cameras a year built. That is about the current production and will be the same for the forseeable future.

Hi, read with interest all the few comments on what and where Leica is and going. To be honest I have a very complete digital system and a full complement of lenses from a little company called Canon. This includes their 200 f 1.8 and all three macro lenses, plus a good assortment of a full range of their "L" designated lenses. My Leica system(s) are three M's, a M6TTL 0.58, an M 7 0.58 and an M 7 0.72. My lenses are a 28 f 2 asph, 35 asph, a 50 Summerit f 2.5 and my baby 75 f 1.4. Realizing the short comings as to the lens length; I recently purchased in almost new condition, a R6.2 and an R7, along with an older, but mint, 180 f4 and the ROM zoom 105-280 f 4.2. Again in mint. I'm looking for a 90 f2 to round out my R series and to complement my 'R' series.
So I'm not worried about what Camnon or Leica do in the future. The only thing is of course providing service. Canon will, I'm nervous about Leica. That's the subject I would like to read more about, service in the future. |

I think Leica should drop the secrecy attitude and state what the "suitable solution" for digital use of R-lenses will look like before the last potential user has found their own solution elsewhere. I already converted my Apo-Telyt 180/3.4 to Nikon F-mount (leitax.com), and judging by the feedback response on that webpage, many others have converted their R-lenses too (not to mention the many that adapt them to Canon DSLRs).
The EVF of my Sony DSC-R1 is certainly its weakest feature - unsuitable to judge exposure and inadequate to compose anything that moves - not to mention generally poor visibility. |

First & foremost thanks for sharing the video of these announcements. If there is anything we (I for one) needs on this forum are clear information & straight forward communication with Leica officials about the future of Leica gear (hope they’re reading). The M8 infinity program was one of my favourite with all those upgrade possibilities (finally a digital camera that lasts longer than the paint on the outside), yet I understand that eg. a FF upgrade would cut M9 selling. Marketing strategies are killing relationships between producers & costumers, & I wish Leica will always have more knowledge on manufacturing than selling their products. So we got the message that the mainstream focus is on the S2… what about those not interested?
Body language is another issue & tells much about the situation; R10 announcement comes with closed arms, staying back in a defensive way, while M9 goes with open hands & palms visible. More videos pls, let us see them when they’re talking. Kind regards, Jeno |

I'm sure you all knew this, but there's already an R adapter for the Digilux 3.

Anyone heard this idea about Canon supplying the sensor for the M9:

Leica is simply afraid to say "Hey you guys who spent thousands of euros on THE RENOWNED lenses and bodies of Leica R you are LEFT OUT IN THE COLD! go find a 5dmkii and stick ur lenses to it (with an AF-Confirm adapter)! signed Leica CEO" simple as that.
worst than that S2 is very risky too, its hard to see someone with years of experience and investment on hasselblad and phaseone and schneider would even look at s2. i like hassy and phase1 because i can use my 39mp back on P2, mastertechnika, H2F, 500c/m, 503, SWC... depending on project. why should i go for a DSLR with 37mp and no solution for serious studio work and not enough wide angle solution and NO Future same as R9 (i still remember the fuss about DMR/R9 solution). Leica must continue M more seriously and start to believe in what they are good at. |

I agree with the speculations about R10 solution - its not going to be something interesting than a Canon-Leica or DMR - unless its full frame and if that's the case we will probabily see something from Panasonic before Leica announcement.
I could be wrong - but over the years of waiting and speculating I don't think I will be wrong ![]() |

In the words of "The Castle" if you think they will be making a body for the R lenses,
"you're dreaming". The only solution I think "might" come is an adaptor to some other camera. Sad day Cheers Alastair |
