Default 35mm lens for the M3

I would like to purchase a 35mm lens for the Leica M3. Do I have to stay with the 35mm lens designed for the M3, if not, which ones would be a good selection?

You either will need a clip on viewfinder for 35mm - which can be quite expensive or you need the special M3 35mm lens which has "goggles" which convert the 50mm frame to cover the 35mm angle. These come in both f3.5 and f2.8 of which the latter is the better lens. They are available in the second hand market.

Voightlander makes finders in the 35 mm range. Personally, I guesstimate the framelines just outside of 50mm when using my 35 on my M3. Kind of like using the Force....

35mm RF lenses( RF is the designator for a 'goggled' lens) for the M3 also are available in f2.0 and f1.4. The f2.0 Summicron is generally regarded as the sharper of the two and that is what i have. The f1.4 Summilux is rarer and considerably more expensive on the after market.-Dick
