Summicron 35mm Version IV - aperture cannot open wide?

I received this lens last week and the lens is in pristine condition with no sign of use. But I noticed the aperture seemed not to fully open at f/2. Compare to other lens I have, eg. Summilux 35mm Asph, the aperture ring is not visible when wide open but this Summicron 35mm lens shows a little bit edge of the aperture at full aperture. Anybody Summicron 35mm IV owner noticed this ? Is this normal?

I don't have this lens but there are other Leica lenses where the diaphragm is still visible at full aperture. It's likely to have something to do with masking the edges of the elements (that produce the worst lens aberrations) to improve overall picture quality.

If you find that the shutter speed decreases as you would expect when you stop down from f/2 to f/2.8 then it's likely that the diaphragm's retracting as far as it's intended to.

Pete.

I have the same lens and it shows a little of the blades as well. However when I change the aperture from f2 to stopped down 1 click, or 1/2 stop, the shutter changes 1/2 stop as well.

My Summilux is as your Summilux as well. I don't think your lens has a problem.
