LX-3 - for the RAW output, and although it's larger than the C-Lux it can still fit in a pocket.

They don't. The C-Lux 3 is jpg only.

Wow, I'm glad I ask. I went to Digital Camera Reviews and News: Digital Photography Review: Forums, Glossary, FAQ and I did the comparison of the two, and it says "Uncompressed format Leica D-LUX 3 Yes, RAW
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 Yes, RAW Digital Cameras Side-by-Side, 2 cameras: Digital Photography Review Last edited by JonQ; 01.12.2008 at 18:27. |

D-Lux 3 does support RAW, as does the equivalent Lumix LX-2. however in your original post you mentioned C-Lux 3 ... different camera.
In the comparison here, did you mean C-Lux 3 or D-Lux 3 vs Lumix LX-3 or D-Lux 4 vs LX-3? The latter are equivalent, albeit priced significantly differently.

I just realized there was a D and a C series, how confusing; like I said, I'm sure glad I ask you guys.
I am going to get the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3, it's a good price and I see good reviews, plus I can use the RAW output with my Adobe Photoshop CS3 and have some more fun. I was trying to stay small and have the RAW output and I think this is the best I'm going to find. |

The D-Lux 4/LX-3 has an excellent reputation and it is probably only surpassed by the Canon G10 at the moment, although the Canon is far more of a brick vs svelte camera. The PanaLeica has been significantly improved as far as noise/image quality is concerned with it's latest Venus processing engine.
Have fun!

It can be very confusing!
The lower spec models are still good at what they do but the LX range is much more flexible and capable. Regards, Bill

I chose the LX3 and am very satisfied with the cameras performance. I've owned the Lumix DMC FZ30 since it came out and it has proven to be a tank of a camera with image quality that makes me scratch my head as to why I put all the money into my M8.

If price were no issue, and I wanted to be coddled by an automatic camera, I'd buy an M7
