Hi all,
On a short trip to London this week and was hoping to pick up a 15mm Heliar... The Classic Camera seem to be selling it for 40 quid more than everyone else (inc VAT I hope), so I wondered if there were any other recommended Voigtlander dealers around London that may have it? Many thanks for your help.. Iori |

Lori,
I bought mine from Jacobs http://www.jacobsdigital.co.uk/content.php which is opposite that-shop-which-can't-be-named in New Oxford Street. I found them friendly and helpful, I can't remember the price but I do remember it was cheaper than Classic Cameras. There again, everyone is cheaper than Classic Cameras. It's a great lens, you're going to love it. I was just talking about it this morning http://www.leica-camera-user.com/peo...-said-him.html Michael |

The thing that bugs me about The Classic Camera is that many of their prices end in ..9.99.
This tradition of pricing one penny below a round number comes from the days before credit cards to force the sales assistant to ring up the transaction on the cash register and make change instead of just pocketing the money... Nowadays, it just smacks of waving a wet finger in the air to establish pricing. What will the punters wear? Which is why wild horses wouldn't take me to The Classic Camera.

I paid my first (and likely only) visit to Classic Cameras yesterday. Says it all really!
As stated Jacobs could well be a good bet. Also try R G Lewis in Southampton Row - not too far away - they certainly have Leica lenses etc. and may have the lens but I can't recall offhand. |

There's a shop in Camden who advertise in the Amateur Photographer, usually a double page ad near the back, and they have been listing numerous s/h Voigtlander lenses recently. Sorry I don't have a copy to hand so its a bit vague, but you should find it easily.

That said, I've been told (by more than one dealer) that the UK importers for Voigtlander (no names, no pack-drill here, but anyone in the UK will know the ID) won't give discounts to any other dealer, which makes it hard for them to sell the stuff any cheaper than they (the importer) do themselves. A reasonably large chain like Jacobs will obviously have a bit more muscle to cut a deal than a single shop outlet. |
