With regards to general question around spending on gear, I'm not a photographer by trade. I'm quite contented at this stage with my M8, 50mm Summilux ASPH, 35mm Summicron ASPH, 90mm Elmarit and a couple of noktons. Hopefully Leica doesn't bring out the much speculated about M9 in the short term cos I'll be very tempted to buy it ![]() |

NO. The delay of the R10 has put off my purchases. The economy, be it local, national or world-wide comes and goes. It's a fact of life. Fortunately I am blessed that my professional photographic activities only have to fund my personal photographic interests, and a few luxuries for my family. I will say that the relative weakening of the US$ against the Euro and the resulting retail price escallations for Leica over the past several years has encouraged me to seek out used equipment, especially with the steeper depreciation found in the R series. Bargains are out there, and I'm enjoying them. And my R10 fund is sitting safely as I anxiously await the R10.
Hang on, life will continue... John

Not deferred a purchase, indeed I've just bought a DSLR whilst waiting for the S2 or R10. But, in order to do that in the current economic climate, I've had to sell my M8 kit

Don't bank on it! Just ordered new 50mm Summilux as UK prices for this lens seem suddenly to be shifting upwards. And three dealers within walking distance of the British Museum each have in stock between three and four used 35mm Summicrons – have people suddenly gone off this lens?

There are certain lenses that command interest and the 35 cron ASPH is not one of them. Great lens though. Used examples seem to be a bargain compared to the new price.

I just purchased a 50 Lux ASPH and 28 cron (both used). haha. And no, I'm not made of money like many of the people who seem to frequent camera forums. The cost of those lenses was offset by about 80% by other equipment sales (camera and location sound recording stuff).
I figured with Leica lenses, now is always the time to buy. Had I gotten into them 2 years before I did, I could have saved my self a lot of money - they are only going to get more expensive... I should probably be sinking money into the stock market. haha.
