You see what i mean Andy don't you. Some people have spent little fortunes in R lenses and their value will drop severely if the change of mount is confirmed. Or perhaps it sounds natural to you.

In that case NOW could be the time to buy R lenses.

What I'm curious about is where "mooky" is getting his info

Simon, the sky is falling and you need to get rid of your R glass before it becomes a white elephant. I've got a nice big garbage can, e-mail me privately for details ...

You know what, Doug ... I do have something I want to get rid off. Perhaps we can arrange a trade for your 280/4. LOL

Luigi,
my reading exactly, no difference between M8 and M8.2 as per page 12 of the press release 'DNG file information', if there Was a change it would have been shown in brackets...
Although that said, the SDHC support is not shown in brackets, so there is some inconsistency there.....

I have lots of money in R glass. The non-appearance of an R10 doesn't mean that I have to stop using iit on my R8 or R4.

It's a bit like falling house prices - only a problem to you personally if you HAVE to sell or move house for some reason.

I never saw my lenses as an investment - I have always seen them as something to use and enjoy for as long as I am able.

Now, an R10 would certainly be welcome (if the price is right - going to be at least M8.2 prices, if one ever arrives, I'd suggest), but just because it's not arrived yet, doesn't mean I am going to bale out of my R glass any time soon.

From the press info on the M8.2: "The new Capture One 4 raw data converter of the Danish manufacturer Phase One ensures the best possible picture quality in the camera’s DNG mode" - what is this all about?

(yes I´m new here - haven´t gone M-digital as I don´t like the crop, but maby some day...)

My guess is that Leica didn't want the announcements re the 'M' system to be overlooked by the announcement of the R10 and new AF 'R' lenses. Because the 'M' announcements would not be going to be as revolutionary (for Leica) as the R10, it made good sense for the 'M' gear to be announced first and allow them to have the spotlight for a time, before announcing the 'R' products.

... I think is a generic phrase... they have OEM relationship with Phase One and quoting it in their announcements is probably part of their agreements... and probably some update of C1 shall have a M8.2 profile... imho, that's all, and nothing to do with real 16 bit (which, imho, is not a so important issue for M8)

What no-one has mentioned here... is why an f3.8 24 ASPH?
What is wrong with the current f2.8 24 ASPH? Is it too close to a Summilux version?
I don't think so.

The only wrong side of the current 24 is price... the new 3,8 costs less and may have equal performance at equal apertures (so says Puts, about... ). And isn't so close to the new Summilux... 2 stops and a good amount of money... : anyway, probably 3 24 in pricelist are a bit too much, but the current 24 2,8 receives so many praises (haven't it, but so apeears in the forum) that seems strange they throw it away... would become an instant classic/collector's item by sure.

I am sure we will see some new products.

In the meantime, 24/3.4 looks interesting -- smaller than the 24/2.8.

21/1.4 would be very useful for interiors in low light at slower ISO settings, film or digital.

Projector looks neat, but I still like my Pradovit and Super-Colorplan lens.

With all this talk of 'dumping' your old Leica gear just because there's something newer available, can I remind everyone that you shouldn't contribute to landfill and dispose of your equipment responsibly.

I will offer a safe disposal service to all forum members - please PM me with what it is you need to dispose of and I will provide the details of where to send it.

That is all.

How very true. As long as film is available (and I expect that to be the case longer than I will be physically able to carry my R stuff around), my R9 and R lenses will continue to give me the best quality slides I ever saw in my lifetime. Thank god they made the 28 - 90 lens, it is a gem.

Andreas, drop me a line whenever you are in Holland and I show you some 6x7 slides projected with a Goetschmann For 35mm, however, I probably could agree with you.

Default AW: Official Leica photokina Announcements...

Joachim,

a friend of mine here in Munich has two of those Götschmann projectors, and so I have had the chance to see 6x7 slides taken with a rangefinder Mamiya camera. I must say I was not too impressed given the huge advantage in "sensor size". Indeed, I was hardly able to notice a difference in sharpness, resolution and color. I was surprised myself by that finding, as I had anticipated to see a clearly visible jump in quality.

Cheers,

Andreas

P.S.: I will still give you the benefit of the doubt and may well drop you a line when in your area!
