Photokina connects with the E generation

Conscious that they need to remain relevant to younger visitors, the organisers of this year’s Photokina imaging trade show have decided to throw a party.

The ‘Image, Music & (E)Motion’ night will transform the Rhine Park Halls in Cologne ‘into the hottest and trendiest nightspot’, with a headline appearance by Deichkind, a ‘hip-hop/techno-rock combo’ from Hamburg, ‘currently rocking concert audiences throughout Germany with a live program featuring a trampoline, bouncy castle, glowsticks, hometrainers, and an inflatable dinghy’.

We kid you not. The event has the support of many of the biggest names in the industry, including Epson, Samsung, Kodak, Cewe Color, and Fujifilm.

‘We are making a conscious move to appeal to a younger target group with a big market presence and thereby issuing an important mission statement for the coming years,’ deadpanned Oliver Kuhrt, executive vice president of Koelnmesse.

Dozens more acts will take centre stage on 25 September, alongside visuals set to music. Party guests will be photographed on their arrival, courtesy of Myphoto, and the images beamed via WLAN to the hall and projected in real time onto a large screen.
