I have a current-gen 28/2.8 Elmarit asph. Quite suddenly, the front element and housing seems to be loose within its coupling. I cannot really determine if it is affecting pictures but it seems very precarious. It is possible to "wobble" the element with quite a lot of play.
I think I remember reading about this problem as somewhat common with this lens, but now I cannot find where that is. Anybody have any comments? |

I just had the same problem. The lens was in warranty, so I sent it to Solms. They repaired it OK, but it took over a month.

I have had a similar problem and was really pissed off when my 1 month old Summicron 35m lens suffered the same problem. The dealer I bought the lens from were very good and gave me a Voigtlander 25m2.5 as a loaner. I am now informed that the lens has been sent back to Germany (I live in Sydney Australia) and it could take 3 months!! The dealer tried to get a new replacement lens, but no luck. So now after spending A LOT OF MONEY on a new lens I have to wait 3 months. I know that the Voigtlander lens is probably a nice lens but the problem is that it just isn't the same. I guess I will calm down soon. The dealer is trying to get Leica to loan me another 35 Summicron. Fingers crossed !

Not just the front element, a few days ago, suddenly, my 9 months old 28 elmarit whole inner lens assembly wobble within the outer casing housing the aperture and focusing rings. I did not realise Leica makes image-stableliser lens
![]() It is completely useless now and waiting to go back to Leica UK when I can get to talk to their service department who incidentally leave their office early at 16.00 hrs on Friday. Sang |

Well, i have a brand new Summicron 28A who's front element was becoming loose too, that is, moving a bit.
I took a small screw driver and screw on the three screws situated at the front ring (just before the diaphragm ring). Now it's tight like a Champagne cork again. ![]() Those guys at Solms should take a bit of vitamin, lack of strength i guess. ![]() |
