iView Media sold to Microsoft

My beloved iView MediaPro software-producer iView Multimedia has been sold to Microsoft.

I have all my pictuers at my fingertips thanks to that software. I hope they will continue to develop a great product.

Oh, dear and I have just bought it! I hope MS doesn't meddle with it so that it conflicts with other programmes. MS Word constantly crashes on my my Windows XP machine which is why I reverted to using the far superior WordPerfect software for wordsmithing.

When I finally got p****d off by the chronic unreliability of MS Word and its irritating habits (particularly the way it constantly tries to second-guess what you want by way of a layout) I went the whole hog to a MAC and Nisus Writer Express.

I haven't looked back - and I do use my computer to edit a 64-page magazine for a railway preservation society 4 times a year.

Interesting with Word because that was how it worked on Mac till a year ago. With the new update Word never crashes on my G5 iMac or portable mac.

But of course it still has all the annoying second-guess 'services.' Incredible such a simpel thing can be made that complex.

Wonder how a Leica M would look and work if Microsoft made it..?

By the way iView MediaPro was originally made for Mac and then for Windows later.

I've been trying Lightroom over the last week or so. I may be missing something, but iView + PS2 is light years ahead of Lightroom IMHO. Perhaps it's the way I'm used to working, I don't know, but I just don't 'get' Lightroom.

The only problem with PS2 is the speed that it runs at on the Intel Macbook I have.

More likely they will ad all their lively, aesthetic, original and meaningfull clip-art to iView as the default library.

Then, every time you want to import a pictue file to it, it will ask "Do you really want to add this file?" and then if you click "yes" a after a few of those "are you sure?" "are you sure that you are sure?" and "Are you REALLY sure that you are sure?" a service-information will appear on how to remove it if you regret at a later stage.

And every time you open the database, it will inform you that you have files that are not part of the (loooovely) Clip-Art library and you can remove them all by clicking (default) 'yes.


Well, anyway. I think much of the "Microsoft will not support Mac" is political theater. Fact is that they keep coming out with new Mac updates and I think their Mac team at Microsoft love their Macs (and I also think the rest of the guys at Microsoft envy them).

So even Gate/Jobs have their 'fights' Microsoft will not let Mac down. After all, if Apple was not around, Microsoft would be without it's main source of R&D.

Andy OSX 1.4 etc has a 30 day kill switch to stop multiple users as with Adobe CS2 two machines are permitted as far as I can see but I am not sure it is implemented.
Sure with word, virtual windows etc and so many universal platforms around there is bound to be a leak in the pipes

That's an Adobe security implication, not an Apple one.

Microsoft Office also checks the network to see whether there are more than one copy of any Office suite programs running. If you have installed with the same serial number on two different Macs, you cannot use the software on both at the same time.

I have no problem with that - theft is theft.

What I would have a problem with, if I were a Windows user, is the fact that it will now be MANDATORY to update your software when MS tell you too. No choice.

Further, the fact that the system is unable to tell a bootleg version of Windows from a legit one would be a real concern for me, given that I would have a legit version.

I realise the Adobe impementation, other third party software companies state the one copy only per machine caper but it doesn't seem to be the case.
I also have a single users copy and my OSX and it works on two machines( both networked) and they run without a hitch.
I also have a single users copy and a new copy for the intel machine, that came with the machine the other one I bought.
Then I know some who have 3-4 tankfulls of Tigers with only one hose, that's why I doubt if everthing is implemented unless apple said hang the old machines and we will implement it with the intel architecture.
In the end people find their way around things so it will probably only hassle the brain buckets of the honest ones not their own kind that play the same game as microsoft and apple

This doesn't directly relate to the horrors of Microsoft but I recall a thread on the old forum asking how many Leica users were Mac users. If I remember correctly, it was a significantly high percentage of us.

Aside from the jokes, iView is not really bad but also not the best you can get. Just compare the speed with, let's say, FotoStation. It's like the difference between a Ford Model T and a Corvette.
