Sent in my R9 for a minor glitch under warranty and my D2 for the sensor failure.
I left it May 15 by my Leica dealer. Leica acknowledged repair by June 9. So, this is about 3 weeks time. ![]() But I still did not got the cameras back. Why ? Because the distributor/importer takes up to 10 days to dispatch the cameras back from Solms. ![]() If they did the same on the outward journey, it means Leica did the repair in less than 2 weeks… ![]() |

I'll get my R9 and a 180 lens back next week. Six months in total for the repair and ROM install, including shipping back and forth from Germany. Let's not get too worried about a few weeks.

Johan -
Of all the repairs I've had only twice did I send the equiipment through the dealer, and I'm fairly certain the dealer added measurably to the entire cycle. When I delivered equipment for repair directly to the Leica USA facility (admittedly not that distant for me to get to - less than a 45 minute drive) Leica estimated the return time and always met the date or were a week early returning the equipment to me. This suggests that if it is possible you might want to contact Solms for future repairs to arrange for direct shipment to them. |

Hello, Stuny,
You're perfectly right. I will send my M7 under warranty to have it equipped with the optical DX reader, called Solms about that, and they told that a direct shipping to them and back would shorten the trip of about 2 weeks at least. I suspect dealers and/or importers/distributors wait and send cameras by batches. |

It's much cheaper to do so of course and it's not surprising this is what dealers and importers do. Otherwise, it's a major expense in relation to the profit they make. I just send my stuff DHL to Solms directly. It's typically there between 10:00 and 11:00 the next working day.

In addition, each facility it passes through must enter the equipment into its own record-keeping process, both for insurance purposes and to be sure they can return it to you..
