Philippe D. Posted May 16, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 16, 2008 Leica has just announced they are selling their last 100 Noctilux. It will be a special collection presented in a wooden box... for the symbolical price of.... 10,000 Euros (US$15,556) Eric, that's the price including sell taxes, without tax it is 8360 euro (US$ 12,960) for those last f/1.0 Nocti. A lot less!
clw Posted May 16, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 16, 2008 So, Leica is stopping production on the Noctilux? Or re-designing the current one? *Sorry* Am I missing something?
Daniel Ortego Posted May 16, 2008 Share #5 Posted May 16, 2008 As I shake my head in awe, I’m truly amazed. This must be so new that it hasn’t yet been mentioned on the Leica Lens site? Regards,
Eoin Posted May 16, 2008 Share #6 Posted May 16, 2008 I'll have 3 please!. Truly the passing of an era, no doubt they will find eager collectors chomping at the bit to add this to the collection.
delander † Posted May 16, 2008 Share #7 Posted May 16, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I thought they were basically made when ordered and now they have got a 100? Jeff
clw Posted May 16, 2008 Share #8 Posted May 16, 2008 I called Leica USA and spoke to someone, (a man named Dave, perhaps) and he said he knew nothing about it. I wonder if Leica will build a 35 f1? (Would that be the more 'normal' lens on the cropped M8?)
Philippe D. Posted May 16, 2008 Share #9 Posted May 16, 2008 I called Leica USA and spoke to someone, (...) and he said he knew nothing about it.It's hot, it's brand new. A Leica dealer got this news dated ~16h00 GMT.Time to cross the Atlantic and you'll get it there. Obviously you can't wait to get yours. kwpatlaw Posted May 16, 2008 Share #10 Posted May 16, 2008 I suppose if you are in to collecting , then welcome aboard. These are sure to mean something down the road. But if you admire the lens enough to use it, then why on earth would you pay that kind of inflated price ? Yesterday I took delivery of a current model notilux in LN condition for $5240. I believe that if you want one badly enough, they can be found for somewhere in the $4000 to $6000 range. It all comes down to the purpose of the purchase. ErikFive Posted May 16, 2008 Share #11 Posted May 16, 2008 9500$ seems like a pretty steep price for a wodden box.
Philippe D. Posted May 16, 2008 Share #12 Posted May 16, 2008 9500$ seems like a pretty steep price for a wodden box. No, no. It's not the wood, it's the varnish.
Efra1 Posted May 16, 2008 Share #13 Posted May 16, 2008 I hear something about it 4 weeks ago, they stop the current producction in Canada. The new ones will be made in Germany. Anyway, it´s crazy price for a sure beautifull wood box..........
clw Posted May 16, 2008 Share #14 Posted May 16, 2008 I do want a Noctilux, but not to stow away in a collectable box, but to put on the front of an MP or M7 that I plan to buy, and get down to imagemaking. I wish someone could confirm for me if Leica is going to stop making these lenses (non-collectable Noctilux). Honestly, it doesn't seem very likely that they would. Sure it's a pricey lens, but it's a freakin' F1 lens! And I thought I read that newer Noctilux lenses were made in Solms, older ones in Canada at Elcan? bradreiman Posted May 16, 2008 Share #15 Posted May 16, 2008 They are discontinuing the current design. Rumors hae been rampant about a cheaper more mass produced lens but without the rare glass of the current design.
fotografr Posted May 16, 2008 Share #16 Posted May 16, 2008 I thought they were basically made when ordered and now they have got a 100? Jeff That is my fault. I ordered 100, then backed out at the last minute.

ccc yyy Posted May 17, 2008 Share #19 Posted May 17, 2008 so, if you already have the nox, can you buy just the wooden box (... for your nox)?
luigi bertolotti Posted May 17, 2008 Share #20 Posted May 17, 2008 Sure they are not to charge 150 more for coding ? Anyway... 100 collectors in the world can probably be found... I think they'll make some "special numbering" too... Apart joking and the opinions on price, they are going to be the last product from Canada... end of what used to be a legendary site for lenses
