Default R to M adaptor?

I have seen these adaptors on ebay. Sometimes going for as much as $150.00. I know the R lenses seem cheaper than the M's. Does the adaptor work and what are the benefits other than cost to using one?

If you are willing to give up the abililty to focus with the rangefinder, they will be ok.

I think they were originally made for R lenses on Leicina movie cameras.

Yes they work. Unless you are doing something unique, I don't think they're worth the effort. By way of example, I posted in another forum several years ago, something I tried quite successfully. I mounted an Adaptall Tamron 70-210mm zoom to a Leica R mount, attached that to the R to M adapter, then mounted it all on an M6 ttl. The lens has built in autofocus and batteries, so I knew the picture would be focused. I used the 90mm viewfinder frame for the low end of the lens zoom and the rangefinder box for the long end. The M6 provided ttl metering for exposure. The shots I took were quite crisp and contrasty, but not quite up to Leica quality in the corners. I've had very little other use for the R->M adapter since then, because of the need to hit focus right on the button with lenses wide open.

I figured as much. Thanks for the info. I didn't think it would couple to the RF.

If one likes to enjoy on a Leica M some R lens with few problems of focusing (say, the 19 2,8 or the 15 3,5)... can be an alternative to the perennial CV 15...

I recently bought this one. But unfortunately my 19mm Elmarit will not mount on it. One of the three flanges on the lens is too big. However, the adapter does work with some, may be all, longer R lenses. But its useless for long lenses since there is no rangefinder coupling. I specifically bought it for the 19mm. So now I am trying to return it.

Hi,

There is a similar R-M adaptor from Novoflex. I use my 19mm R on my M8 with this adaptor.
