Frage Querying reliability of M7 optical DX

May I request feedback on the reliability of the optical DX reader that is now included, and can be retrofitted, on the Leica M7?

I received my camera back after 14 weeks in repair due to an unreliable DX reader. They retrofitted the new optical reader. I tried out the camera for the first time today, and the optical reader also was highly intermittent. I am considering sending it back in for another several months of repair, but wish to know that a correctly-functioning optical reader is robust, and that my reader is definitely the exception to the rule.

Thank you.

Eric, I am using two M7 with optial reader since it was available and had no problems until today. The optical reader is definitly reliable. Did they add a washer on the base plate to keep the film canister in its position?

Default Requesting a photo of the washer

Thanks for the feedback.

It doesn't appear that they performed the washer modification, but may I request a photo of your modified baseplate with an arrow indicating the washer modification? Thank you.

Here we are. The upper one is without, the lower one is with washer. The M7 with the optical reader requires the washer. You can get it from the CS in Solms together with a longer screw. It takes two minutes to fit the washer with the longer screw.

Default Thanks for the picture

It turns out I my M7 does have the washer, so I have a different problem. I may try some Fujichrome and see if it's a Kodachrome issue. If not, then it's back to New Jersey and Solms.
