Why remove the internal slide-in hood on R lens?

I was looking at some used R lenses and saw that one has its internal slide-in built in hood removed from the lens. Why would someone remove it? Odd.

Because it fell off and they didn't want to pay for its repair?

Apart from damage, I really can't imagine.

Next you are going to tell us how you can remove the thing without taking the lens apart Albert. Kind of only leaves dropped and mangled and couldn't be salvaged in repair. Even if they are a pain in the proverbial, surely it's a long shot that it was removed by the user.
