And of course the first thing she did was take a wander down the product assembly lines and said "Hey listen up guys...My life depends on..."

The press release quoted her mail adress... I quickly send her a kind short message of welcome & best whishes... looks even a nice woman..., although "Wiebke" sounds not so a sweet name to me..

I think that is potentially good news.

Leica's communications have been shrouded in ambiguity which leads to mis-interpretation and wild speculation. It may be they suffer in the translation, though I don't think even their announcements in German are models of clarity.

Hopefully, Frau Deggau will clean things up, which surely has to include putting the brakes on Dr Kaufmann's own habit of the teasing hints which simply add to the confusion. I'd expect her to demand that every public communication, every press release, every bit of marketing hype has to cross her desk first. Job One (IMHO) should be to dump the web-site until she has decided what image Leica wishes to present.

She's certainly arrived at Leica at a critical time in its history...

Not sure what it is about furniture and Leica. Hans Peter Cohn, several CEOs ago, went on to an Austrian furniture company and this announcement says Gero Furchheim is now going to work for some sort of Interior Design Council.

It's not just Leica, look at this Nikon one. Every time you select and option and then return to it, it has to relad the (flash?) homepage...

Nikon Cameras

Perhaps Leica are discovering that women can manage the show better than men. This is the lady who is supposedly heading up the R10 development effort...

XING - Maike Harberts

[You can only find out the company name by being a member, so Leica is not specificially mentioned. I wonder how many other companies with the same profile exist in D-35606 Solms.. ]

Good News! One of her hobbies is diving, so it could be that we get the "Leiconos" One for scubadiving....

Maike Harberts has worked with Canon Deutschland for more than 8 years?

Not a good news for Nikon aficionados.

We all make mistakes, Simon, though I admit 8 years is quite a long time to realise them... LOL

So when they are under water, she will be blowing bubbles... Also, why is she no longer heading up the R10 effort???.... Are they changing tanks in mid-dive? Hmmmm....

Default AW: Leica hires a new PR person.

Disclosure: I have been working for Nikon Germany for more than six years - the same way Maike did that for Canon Germany:

We both studied at the same study course (Photo engineer) where ALL students had similar jobs as promoters on the photokina and other fairs.

Many of my fellow students and Nikon co-promoters I met later at Leica Camera...

Best regards
Andreas
