Hello,
I am currently in Europe and need to purchase a brand new Leica MP + 35mm f2 lens with UV filter ASAP, however I would like to find the best price for the kit. Would anyone be able to tell me which country in Europe is the most reasonably price (in Euros) for new Leica M cameras? If so, any advice on a particular shop in that country? I am in Paris at present and it is very easy to get to any country in Europe so the travel is not an issue for the best price. I would really appreciate any knowledge any of the members might be able to provide. Thanks, Patric. |

I have the impression that the "Euro Zone" is rather flat in pricing Leica gear... difficult that a specific trip can worth a price difference. I can give 3 indications based on personal feelings, not supported by recent direct experience :
- Inside Euro zone, maybe better to go to Leica home, Germany - England is someway the country more adiacent to US in agressive pricing policies. - For tax reasons, Andorra is a knockout place for consumer electronics, including digital photo equip... have no idea if you can find Leica gear too, and the specific items you search. Sorry, really my 2 cents and no more... |

While you're in Paris why not taking a look at boulevard Beaumarchais (metro: Bastille).
There are several camera store there, as well as the official Leica Shop Paris. |

When I lived in Paris I used to buy my equipment from dealers in the UK. Much cheaper. Blvd Beaumarchais has lots of dealers, but they're all expensive in my experience - for used as well as new.
After saying that I bought my M6 from a small shop just around the corner from the Pompidou centre. I've shopped at Maison du Leica for straps and filters, but that's about all.

In case you pass Hamburg:
MEISTER CAMERA Hamburg Photohaus Colonnaden For new equipment I have the impression list price = sales price. It shouldn't matter where to buy then... |

Wouldn't simply purchasing it in Paris be simpler and quicker? Whatever money you can save by going to Germany or anywhere else is probably off-set by the travel expense, not to mention the value of your time.

Hey!
There is a Meister in Berlin as well, I have just been there last week and bought a 90mm f/4 elmar in good condition for €125. They have a MASSIVE collection (both new and used) and an English speaking staff, he was helpful and funny Here is the address: Fasanenstraß 71, 10719, Berlin. You can get there by die U-bahn and get off at Kurfürstendamm. Hope this helps Pok

forgot to mention,
Richard Caplan in London is quite good as well, here is their web-site. They might give you a special discount as well, don't forget to ask them for a VAT refund form! But i am not sure if you could get VAT refund if you are traveling onward to another EU country. Here is their address, 25 Bury Street, London SW1Y 6AL Best Regards Pok
