Default Dealing w/ ffordes ?

Looking at possibly ordering some gear from across the pond from ffordes, but know nothing of their reputation. The email-based service so far has been very fast and thorough.

Any input?

I've bought quite a bit of stuff from them over the years. Never had a problem.

In the top five, as far as I'm concerned. No complaints.

Ffordes are, in my honest opinion, a delight to deal with - based on my own experience over the last 10 years.

I have had many dealings (buying and selling) with Ffordes for over ten years and have always found them to be realistic with their prices and honest with their used equipment descriptions.
Although most of my business with them has been mail order, I have visited their "shop" (a converted church) on several occasions and can assure you that it is a highly experienced and organized set-up.

Cheers, Ken.

I bought two of my three M8s from them, a lovely secondhand second version Tri-Elmar and a host of filters and other stuff. They even managed to get me a replacement hood for my WATE after I crunched it and the know-it-alls in Leica UK said it wasn't even in production.

Recommended.

I bought my 35-70/2.8R from them. They are top notch. There will be no problem. They may ask for a wire transfer vice credit card info.

You may get a query from US Customs via the courier service, but it was handled quickly.

Nothing but good to say about them. I've sold a good deal of stuff to them and bought even more. Their descriptions are accurate, they are fast, a pleasure to deal with on the phone if you need to talk something through and they have a no quibble return policy if the item isn't as described (but I've never had to use it)

Had an item arrive this morning from them via mail order - very professional and friendly experience.

I have bought stuff from them (including a Summaron recently), but they refused to accept that my 28 ROM had a stiff focusing ring at infinity when they sold it to me a couple of years go. (Which it did). They are too far away from anyone for a visit to the shop to be practical, so it's a case of your word against theirs if there's a problem.

That cost me £100 at Milton Keynes to have put right - and left a bad taste in the mouth with regards to their after sales service.

The Summaron is fine.

I've dealt with them for 4 years now, they've been excellent. Prices are ok for used equipment.

I have always found them excellent to deal with, as has an older friend of mine who has bought from them for many years. They are not quite the very cheapest, but well worth it. In my opinion, they do not "over grade" their stock at all.

I have always found them to be very accurate with their descriptions, usually a bit cheaper than the London dealers with impeccable service as far as I am concerned.

I have had good dealings with them. The only time I had a problem (with a 135mm Tele-Elmar) I immediately registered my concerns, did some tests and more tests at their request, but it clearly had a serious focus problem. They honored their pledge and refunded me the money. Steve Byford is very helpful and friendly.
