I don't believe fotorembrandt for one instant. I emailed offering to buy at that price and they never came back to me.
It's not surprising. We expect a US price of $4995 + tax which corresponds to £3250 including VAT or about €4700 including tax, depending on the VAT rate. Our Belgian friends are not bargain-basement. They're advertising an R-D1 for €2850 or £2000. I bought one at Robert White for £1350. So there's no reason to suppose they will sell at significantly below the market price. Easy to advertise the camera for that price when it hasn't even been launched. Another thing entirely to sell the camera at that price after it has been launched. Forget about it!

At £3250 it still looks like a very good deal compared to the DMR, because you get the whole camera, not just a digital back. It puts it in among the higher end SLRs from Canon and Nikon, which is about right, but significantly below digital "medium format" offerings from Hasselblad and Mamiya. Provided that the build quality and image quality live up to the Leica name (and there is no reason to suppose they won't), the only issue they will have to deal with over time will be the 10MP sensor resolution, which will be perceived as outdated quite quickly. As we all know, the megapixel race is to a large extent a load of old hooey, but it can kill sales. This is what happened to the Olympus E1, which is now being remaindered at less than half price, despite still being a perfectly good camera.
