Lens hood for Leica CM Zoom

Yes, SK Grimes made a batch for the Minilux 40mm Summarit (I've got one). The CM Summarit lens has (I think) the same external diameter, but the zoom variants are NOT the same, so they would have to be made specially - but SK Grimes will do them. They have three slots around their circumference into which an O-ring fits so providing a friction fit for the hood.

Dave,

You are spot on. The hood is machined of steel with holes on circumference where the hood touches the camera body on top of these holes you have a rubber ring. It is the rubber ring which secures the hood to the lens, so you can turn of the camera and the hood will simply slide off when the lens retracts into the body.

You have to spend some force to manually take it off the camera, so it is a very secure fit. I know this sounds like a contradiction in terms but it really works :)

If the O ring is a bit tight, you can actually slip it off and give it a good stretch - it does seem to ease it a bit. (Grimes supplied me with a spare O ring by the way). My usual repeated senior moment is to switch the camera off forgetting that the hood is still in place - it then falls to the ground (or worse, such as the gap between slats on a footbridge; I avoided that one by millimeters!).

Can I reiterate that an appropriate hood for the zoom is NOT the same as that for the fixed focal length camera. Diameter is different, but also, the hood has got to be a bit shorter because of the wider angle at the wide end of the zoom range. I don't know how effective it would be at the tele end, but I guess it has to be better than nothing.
