Leica's Pro Services

I'm a long time follower of the forum, but a first time contributor. Greetings to you all.

Recent troubles with the accuracy of my M240's rangefinder have left me having to arrange for its return to Wetzlar for repair, though working circumstances have left me having to wait until a loan unit is available from Leica Mayfair for me to use in its absence. In the meantime I'm having to continue on, as I have since suspicions of my rangefinder back focusing first began, and use the EVF or compensate as best I can in the viewfinder by deliberately offsetting the focus to attain an acceptable image.

As an M9 owner previously, without troubles, I suppose quite a lot is riding on my experience in having my M sent away as far as my continuing to reach for the M240 in professional use and investing further into new lenses is concerned (indeed, it was recent trials of several 50mm lux lenses that ultimately confirmed to me something truly was amiss with my camera, so all thought of a new purchases must be put on hold for the time being).

I'm familiar with Canon and Nikon's Pro Services, and the situation has left me curious as to why Leica's own Pro Services only appear to cover their S customers. I raise the question simply as S users protection plan cover extends to 'the loan and delivery of replacement equipment within 24 hours' as detailed here. I find it curious why nothing similar is offered to M users, for a fee of course. Is there any particular reason why this is?

Rangefinder calibration is a problem that can be fixed by any competent Leica workshop whilst you wait, or at least within a very short time.

Having said that Leica CS Wetzlar offers a fast and an express service at extra cost.

It is also wise to register with Leica as a pro.

The person to contact in Wetzlar is Mrs. Andrea Frankl.

Thank you for that information, Jaap. Much appreciated.

I had certainly considered taking the M to a third party for calibration, and if the wait for a loan from Mayfair is too long then I may have no choice, but ideally I feel that since I do use it for work, and even though my M240 is only nine months old, there is perhaps benefit in knowing Leica's CS will not just fix the problem but also give the camera a thorough testing for any other potential issues.

Thanks again.
