Leica, the Strong Dollar, and Prices

Forum members reside in many different countries. Recent gyrations in the foreign currency markets have made me wonder whether and how those gyrations might affect camera pricing. Sometime ago, I signed up for information on the Alpa Camera website. Today I received an e-mail from Alpa stating:

 

... . we introduce as per today a flexible discount regime on heavily Euro related articles, namely

 

lenses

center filters

film backs

tripod heads

 

and offer a discount of 8 percent on professional prices for end users. The CHF list prices remain unchanged and stable but we will deduct the actual and appropriate discount relevant at delivery.

 

Any thoughts, particularly as this relates to Leica's pricing.

Leica is offering incentives to buy new equipment at the moment. That's not the same as actually lowering the prices, even though it has the same end effect for the buyer.

 

If Leica has ever actually lowered the prices of new equipment, I have never heard of it. Leica prices seem to be a one way street. Not complaining, just observing...
