Carbon111 Posted November 14, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I have bought many straps over the years, trying to find the "perfect" one for my Ms (M6, M8, M9 M240) and after trying many of the favored ones have finally settled on the Zhou strap. It is 42" long and is not adjustable - that's its beauty. To be clear, I have a premium Leica strap mint in box if someone wants it but the very thing that makes it adjustable makes it cumbersome and less-than-elegant - the adjustment mechanism is very fiddly and not especially nice-looking. I've tried Luigi's strap off of eBay and found his quality of leather rather wanting. I have a Gariz strap and find the "slides" that cover the buckles are rather "pokey" and annoying. I have an Artisan & Artist strap and am flummoxed at how awfully short it is...and it seems they don't make anything longer. This is odd, because at 5'2", I'm not particularly tall, but I don't want a camera dangling just a couple inches below my chin. Forget having the camera at your hip. Worth looking into if you're anything like me anyway. Advertisement Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Hi Carbon111, Take a look here Finally, a great strap for M (...and X and T). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Carbon111 Posted November 14, 2014 Author Share #2 Posted November 14, 2014 ...just ordered a fourth one as I just got a Leica T recently and don't particularly like the "grabbieness" of the rubber strap. Heads-up to Popflash.com for the T lug pins...

AlanJW Posted November 15, 2014 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2014 I'm partial to Luigi's. I had a Zhou and thought it of lesser quality and I like being able to make adjustments -- even if only once. I don't wax rhapsodic about straps. I have used straps for 55 years now and I haven't found one yet that improved my images. Bags are a different matter . . .
A Almulla Posted November 15, 2014 Share #5 Posted November 15, 2014 Doubt theres a one strap to suit everyone. I've been using the Artisan & Artist Easy Slider Strap and been happy with it. Comfy and can't beat length adjustment in seconds.
bocaburger Posted November 15, 2014 Share #6 Posted November 15, 2014 IZhou strap. It is 42" long and is not adjustable - that's its beauty. at 5'2", I'm not particularly tall, but I don't want a camera dangling just a couple inches below my chin. Forget having the camera at your hip. I'm a lot taller than 5-2 and a 42" strap (around my neck) would have the camera hanging so the LCD was hitting my belt buckle. I bought a nonadjustable Leica X2 leather strap (thankfully only $11 used with tags still on it) which I couldn't use for that reason. I also don't see why Zhou's non-adjustable strap needs sliders/keepers or what that little extra loop of narrower leather is for just past the slider...adornment?
Bill W Posted November 15, 2014 Share #7 Posted November 15, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am 6'3" and would not like a 42" strap is way too long for my taste. I use Are De Mano classic straps, not the extra long. I know they are more expensive but they fit and are quality straps.
bocaburger Posted November 15, 2014 Share #8 Posted November 15, 2014 I use the nonadjustable Voigtlander (now A&A) cloth straps with leather end fobs. I've re-used the same one on my M7, MP, M8, M9 and now M240 and it shows zero wear.

I stare at camera bags almost just as much as I stare at cameras and lenses. Those Billinghams... yum..
Torgian Posted November 16, 2014 Share #10 Posted November 16, 2014 I use Gordy's straps. gordy's camera straps The one I have is the wrist strap and is excellent for my M. Saved my camera last night too... Comfortable, simple, cheap AND tough.
evering Posted November 16, 2014 Share #11 Posted November 16, 2014 I too use Gordy Straps. I have an adjustable neck strap for my M and wrist strap for my M6. They are fantastic and very good value!
Zon Posted November 17, 2014 Share #12 Posted November 17, 2014 I am using a Fast+Prime strap on my M240, expensive but an excellent strap. I love it.
Carbon111 Posted November 17, 2014 Author Share #13 Posted November 17, 2014 Thanks guys, I knew my strap news wouldn't be world-shaking but I thought it might be useful for some. Still looking for that "perfect bag" though...
A Almulla Posted November 17, 2014 Share #14 Posted November 17, 2014 Still looking for that "perfect bag" though... Been using a Think Tank Retrospective 5 and been happy with it. Small and doesn't really look a like a camera bag.
dugby Posted November 18, 2014 Share #15 Posted November 18, 2014 I bought the Leica Ultravid (binoculars) neck / shoulder strap for my M240. There's multiple models of this strap, each for the small-medium-large binoculars. I bought the large version, which has wide strap-leads that connects to the camera's rings. The strap is quite wide at 40mm (1.5") which brilliantly spreads the load across one's neck. It's mainly made of the ultrafine nylon webbing that Leica uses, with a pleasant leather neck pad, and is therefore very light wight. For those here who remember the "Leica Digilux-2" neck strap, this binoculars version is a wider/sturdier variation.
algrove Posted November 21, 2014 Share #16 Posted November 21, 2014 Like many I have tried many. I use the Gordy's, but often still prefer the Leica #14455 leather strap-wide at the neck and narrows down for attachment to any M..

J M Hughes Posted November 27, 2014 Share #19 Posted November 27, 2014 In my opinion, the best Leica strap by far is the one supplied with the X1/X2/X Vario - a simple, one-piece black leather design. I like it because it's understated, flexible, non-adjustable, not too wide or thick, and has no hard metal or plastic bits to scratch your camera. For me it's perfect!
